Hey guys, I'm doing a little vacation in upstate NY and thought I would try to check out a couple of breweries if I have the time. I'll be going to Cooperstown, Ithaca, Watkins Glen, and Corning. I plan on doing Ommegang for sure and will probably at least stop in for a pint at Ithaca Brewing Co. Is there anything else in those areas that's worth checking out? I don't need to do a tour, just a place to grab a pint, growler, souvenirs, whatever. I won't be able to venture far, but as long as it's within a half hour or so of those towns I would be game. Thanks!
Check out Roots Brewing in Oneonta. My wife and I went to Ommegang 2 years ago, and stopped off at Roots along the way. We both enjoyed their beer and food.
Whats the rush ?? Pick an area and enjoy the surrounding wineries, brewerys, distillers, cider houses. restaurants and natural sights man; relax-your on vacation
Climbing bines is decent and they grow their own hops which is cool to see. It's on Seneca, north of Watkins Glen. Hit up some wineries while youre there (Anthony Road is a good one)
Climbing Bines is one of the most beautiful breweries I've been to. Just an incredible space and view. Beer was very solid too. Upstate Brewing is churning out some great stuff and definitely seems to be near the spots you'll be around. Never been to Roots, but if you're in Oneonta, get a slice of cold cheese pizza from Sal's. It's like a two minute walk from Roots.
Thanks for the recommendations all. I'll be going right past Roots on the way up so maybe could stop by for lunch if it works out. Upstate I could probably find time for while in Corning or on the way home. Climbing Bines looks a bit out of the way, but since it's highly recommended I'll see what I can do. Thanks for the sentiment Kiwi. I do feel like I'm squeezing a lot in on this trip, but I'm confident there will be enough downtime to enjoy myself and unwind. Hitting these towns is something I've been wanting to do for a while and I don't know when I'll have the chance again.
