For those who might voting in the upcoming election & happen to live in Minneapolis, there's a measure to change the city charter to lift one more archaic law on the books. Here's a story on it:

    A brief synopsis
    http://kingfield.org/city-modernize...7030-rule-still-in-place-so-vote-in-november/

    A good, longer story
    http://www.minnpost.com/politics-po...ld-key-sustaining-minneapolis-restaurant-boom

tl;dr: there's a law on the books that says restaurants outside "major corridors" have to sell 70% food, 30% liquor. Which means at Anchor Fish & Chips, you can't get a beer while waiting for six hours for your table. The ballot measure is intended to repeal this measure.

Support it or oppose it, read up, get out, vote.

Read up and support the repeal would by my take. Even if one thinks that this should be a policy in Minneapolis it's absolutely absurd that it's in the City Charter and not just an ordinance.

Have you ever read the MN state constitution? Talk about absurd...

Your avatars are messing with my head!

Yeah, it was nice that the ordinance was changed by the city council earlier this year, but most places are still bound to oblige by city law (same 70/30 rule). Weird. I don't live in Minneapolis but I certainly dine and imbibe there more than any other city in the state (excluding the PlatonicOtterLuv gastropub). I'll certainly be talking to friends living in Minneapolis proper about this though!

The local restaurant and beer community is pretty much completely on board. If you live in Minneapolis, definitely vote yes!
