I will be in downtown Minneapolis next Monday and Tuesday (Jan 26/27) and would love to get some Abrasive and possibly Rum King or BA Darkness if it can be had.

Any recommendations on bottle shops or at least a bar where I can try these.

I will be in a taxi, so distance should be considered.

    Thanks for your help!

You likely will not find any of those beers at liquor stores. Fyi all 2014 darkness is "ba darkness," there isn't a variant or anything. Where downtown are you staying? This group can at least point you towards some great bars, taprooms, bottle shops within taxi radius . Cheers!

OP, I'm sure you could get ahold of something by posting an IP trade as well.

You should be able to track down some Abrasive. Lake Wine and Spirits just south of downtown has plenty. Otherwise, if you place a few calls to shops closer to you, I'm sure you'll find it relatively easy.

Rum King was recently on tap at the Indeed brewery. Darkness taps, I haven't seen too many of recently. Busters on 28th tapped a keg last week, but I'm sure it's long gone by now. You could always search on here for people willing to trade bombers, but you will not find them in liquor stores. Long gone. Good luck!

Bottles of Rum King or Darkness are gone, but you may get to try them on tap. Rum King especially has been on all over town, & I believe someone just mentioned it's still on at the brewery. But Darkness is still popping up almost every week (just had a couple pours on Saturday night).

As mentioned, Abrasive should be easy to find.

Bar 508 had darkness on this past Friday. Not sure if it is still on though.

Meetings are at Target HQ, so I will be staying within a few blocks of there. I don't have the exact hotel info in front of me.

If anyone is interested in an IP trade (would have to be Tuesday late afternoon or evening near me), I have a MBCP that I could trade for a Rum King.

Shoot me a note and I will toss the MBCP in my bag.

Thanks to everyone for your quick responses. I appreciate it.

All of bottled 2014 Darkness was aged in rye whiskey barrels, but a good portion (perhaps a majority) of the kegged stuff was not. The kegs should be clearly labeled as "BA Darkness" if they contain the barrel-aged variety, so make sure to ask the bar what version they have if you track it down on tap.

You may not know that Surly just opened a huge and awesome new brewery and taproom in Minneapolis. You probably can get Abrasive there as well as Todd the Axe Man (a big IPA that without hesitation I and many others would tell you is better than Abrasive) as well as other excellent offerings that don't make it to cans or bottles. If I were you, I would hop on the light rail train (Green Line), exit at the Prospect Park station, and walk a few blocks to Surly (it is open on Monday and Tuesday starting at 11 a.m.). The train ride will take about 15 minutes and cost you about a $2 fare. Surly has a full menu and a highly respected chef, so you could eat lunch or dinner there.

Note that Indeed's taproom is closed on Monday and Tuesday, so that's not a viable option for you for Rum King on tap.

I like the light rail idea and may do that. I have heard great thinks about Todd the Axe Man.
