I will traveling to Minneapolis soon on business and hope to visit some Breweries in the area. Can anyone suggest any good breweries or bars to visit while i'm there? I will be located in the downtown area. Any information will be helpful.

    Thanks

I don't think you can go wrong with heading to NE Mpls, not very far from downtown. There is Dangerous Man, Indeed, Sociable Cider Werks and Bauhaus Brew Labs all in the general area and worth a visit.

Depending on where in downtown you are you are probably close to a lot of good breweries/bars.
    Breweries:
Fulton is closest good brewery probably
    Town Hall is fairly close
Day Block is new and fairly close

worth a cab ride if you don't have a car:
    Indeed
    Dangerous Man
Bauhaus Brew Labs (Indeed, Dm and this are very close together and not too far from downtown)
    Surly (furthest away)

    Bars I'd recommend:
    Butcher and the Boar
    Mackenzie's Pub

Downtown breweries include Town Hall (a must visit), Day Block, Freehouse, Sisyphus, and a Rock Bottom franchise. Downtown bars worth hitting up include Republic, Butcher and the Boar, and Haute Dish.

Another brewery worth noting is Northbound Brewpub and Smokehouse. It's in South Minneapolis, but well worth visiting.

I can't believe I forgot Republic... it's across the street from Town Hall which as KarlHungus said is a must visit. Good stuff at Town Hall. I do think hitting NE with Indeed, DM, etc.. is more bang for your buck than going south to NorthBound since you have multiple breweries so close, but that's just my opinion.

Not far out of the way to or from downtown to the NE breweries is Boom Island. If you make the trek to Northbound, Harriet is close.

There are, in my opinion, three outstanding breweries in Minneapolis proper. I would prioritize these three:

    1. Town Hall (brewpub): Immediately southeast of downtown (but still west of the Mississippi River), a Minneapolis beer institution and a must-stop. It's also right next to Republic, one of the best beer bars in town.
    2. Dangerous Man (taproom): Northeast Minneapolis, about 3 miles from downtown. You can only get its beer at the brewery.
    3. Indeed (taproom): Northeast Minneapolis, a mile further east of Dangerous Man.

Just out of Curiosity.....Does it cost to park at any of these establishments?

The taprooms in NE for the most do not require paying for parking, it is mostly street parking but there are some meters.

Town Hall/Republic has limited free street parking, there is a pay ramp that I usually just park in as it is just easier. The ramp isn't too bad, a little bit better then actually downtown ramps.

Also from Downtown if you don't want to pay to park or because you are going to be driving and want to hit a few spots

Green line will get you to Town Hall, Republic, Stub and Herbs and St. Paul bars. or go the other way to Fulton
    Blue line to Harriet
The 11 bus will drop you right off at Dangerous Man
The 10 bus will get you a block away from Indeed and the other NE breweries listed above.

Once in NE walk or rent a green bike.

Cab/Uber back from NE will cost you around $15

Another thing I should mention is that you might want to read through the On Tap in the Twin Cities thread. It is great for keeping up with were well sought after beers are being poured.

All these recommendations are spot on. Also, downtown has some underrated beer bars in addition to those mentioned. Devil's Advocate for one. And then there's perhaps the most overlooked downtown beer bar, the 8th St. Grill.

just wondering, what are some great shelf beers in MPLS that arent found elsewhere? From PA; my brother is headed up there for a few weeks. Trying to figure out what I can realistically ask him to bring back to me. I know, i;ve looked at SeekABrew, but hard to understand individual beer releases/availability. Thanks in advance!

Stouts (BA or otherwise), D/IPAs. Not saisons or sours. Still pretty broad I know, sorry.

Not a good time for stouts, but I have seen Fulton's Worthy Adversary and War and Peace still on shelves, also LiftBridge's Irish Coffee stout is still around. I have seen Epic's Big Bad Baptist at a few stores. For IPAs, definitely some Surly Furious and Overrated. Steel Toe Size 7 is another good IPA.

Sticking local here. I second Steel Toe especially Size 7, but Indeed Day Tripper or Midnight Ryder is also worth a try. Brau Brothers Moo Joos is a good Milk Stout. Big Wood Morning Wood is good and Big Axe if it is around.

    There is always Surly too.

Forgot about Fulton Worthy Adversary and War and Peace, both good and easy to find. Lift Bridge Irish Coffee Stout is good, but will be much harder to find, haven't seen it for a while.
