    Hey All -

First off... I apologize for posting when I'm sure I could research and find this. I just found out about 5 minutes ago I need to head to Minneapolis this evening and will be locked up til then so I won't have time to do the research. My bad there.

Sooo... Basically, I land at 5pm and am looking for a place or two to have some great, local beer. I'll be staying at the Le Meridien on Hennepin so anything that's a close Uber is fine. Bonus for walking but not a necessity. Parameters are simply that I want local beer and will need to eat dinner too so a place that hits both would be awesome. I've only got like 3ish hours so I can't be running all over either to hit two places that are on opposite sides of the city.

I remember hitting Minneapolis Town Hall about 10 years ago and loving the Masala Mama on cask. Looking for another great option... or I may just go do that again!

Thanks a ton for any advice at all!

Town Hall Brewery paired with Republic (craft beer bar with 100 + taps and good food) right across the street

    Or

Surly Brewing's Destination Brewery - usually has about 20 Surly taps and also has awesome food.

Walk to Butcher and the Boar, like 2 blocks away. IMO, best restaurant in downtown and they always have an exceptional tap list.

Either walk up to Butcher and the Boar (less than 5 min walk) for dinner/beer and swing by Mackenzie Pub on the walk back OR take an Uber to Town Hall and cross the street to Republic for a huge tap list with many local options.

Awesome. I'm looking at some of the places mentioned and see lots of locals I don't know about. Any beers I should definitely get if its on tap? I've had most of the surly stuff from being in Chicago.

Republic should have some Fair State beers on tap. Try them.

If you go to Butcher looks like they have Fulton 300 on, a solid mosaic IPA. Insight Sunken City is a decent local saison. Nothing too crazy per the website, unfortunately but I don't know how accurate that is. Someone checked in Indeed Wooden Soul #7 there a few days ago, so if that's on tap I'd try that one.

If you haven't been to Surly I would say to go there, honestly. The food is fantastic and the brewery is a sight to behold.

Which Surly location is best? Turns out work is taking me there tomorrow and wednesday night, so trying to plan.

For reference, I'm staying out at Marriott West, on Wayzata Blvd...so not sure if that's close to anything

There's only one location - they don't serve beer at the old location except for special events. The new destination brewery is a huge space, outdoor lawn games, tons of seating, a merch shop, high-end restaurant upstairs, etc.

Worth seeing for anyone who hasn't been there.

You won't be too far from Steel Toe or LTD Brewing if you want to check out more local spots. Not walkable - but shouldn't cost too much for an uber, under 10 miles.

is the location for Surly the one just east of the UofM? I just had a quick look on the map.

Incidentally, I'm also going to the Chelsea v AC Milan game on Wednesday night, so that may take me closer to other things downtown.

Is there a bottle shop you'd recommend for local stuff too? I've actually ordered from France 44 in the past.

    Thanks

Day Block Brewing is within sight of the East end of the stadium, and Town Hall Brewery and Republic are just a few blocks away. You could easily hit up all three on foot.

I received this exact same advice for my visit a few months ago - I will be doing the same 3 spots when I visit the Twin Cities again in 2 weeks, perhaps visit the Nook too.

Just be forewarned... If you decide to hit Surly at a busy time, you could easily spend time waiting to get a seat. Not sure if you're by yourself or not. We also went on a Saturday, but it was about 4:00 and the wait was 90 minutes. JUST FYI.

I'd personally start at Mackenzie Pub and then consider if you even want to go anywhere else. It's hands down the best beer bar in Minneapolis in regards to making you feel at home. You can walk in in shorts and flip flops. Awesome deck/patio in the back, and the food is pretty amazing. Smoked bar food.

Man just thinking about the Red Stripe burger and their smoked bbq wings. Might have to go there right now.

looks like Macs also has 300 and Bell's Hopsolution on tap. They tapped a 2013 surly darkness on the 26th but that's probably gone.

Both Butcher & the Boar and/or Surly - with Town Hall/Republic mixed in are likely the best of food plus good beer combo's for a quick trip.

An alternative destination that doesn't really have a great immediate food option is to hit Northeast Mpls in the Broadway and Central intersection area. A small walkable radius has Indeed, Bauhaus (cool space), Able (another cool space) and, for a change of pace, Tattersall Distilling. Nearest food up Central Ave is Mill City and Maya (Mexican). Additional ethnic options and Fair State Brewing about 6 blocks further north on Central.

Nice suggestions but on Central Ave its The Mill Northeast not Mill City, that might put him down town on the river.

Thanks a ton for all the suggestions. Update time. I went to Town Hall first and they had Masala Mama on cask. That was literally a formative beer experience for me like 10 years ago so pretty fun to have the same thing. Tried some other stuff there which was all solid. I was going to hit republic but my buddy came free early so hit up Butcher and Boar. Had And Insight saison that was great and some seriously obscenely good charcuterie. Also tried the Fulton 300 IPA which was good. Now I'm sitting at Macs drinking that 2013 Darkness someone else mentioned! So freaking good.

Thanks a ton for all the suggestions. Great night of purely local beer.

Oh sweet, they still had 2013 on tap! That's awesome, and somehow unbelievable.
