I am going to be in town this weekend and was looking for some good recommendations on bars/food. I've done a bit of research and have found a few ideas, but wanted to get an expert opinion from the locals.

I will be in town Friday afternoon visiting family, but will be in Dinkytown that night. I was wondering what bars or breweries would have the games on (NBA/NHL) and have a great tap list. I was thinking Town Hall, but I'm not sure if they play the games. I was also thinking Stubs and Herbs for a nightcap, but perhaps there are other craft bars near dinkytown with better taps?

Saturday, I was thinking of going to Brasa or Republic for lunch and then maybe checking out Indeed or Dangerous Man. What's the preferance on these restaurants and breweries?

I will be busy Saturday night, but Sunday morning I'd love to find a nice breakfast spot if any of you know of one.

    Thanks!

I know there are TONS of options for amazing breakfast in Minneapolis, but my favorite spot for Sunday morning breakfast is Grand Cafe. The Kobe Corned Beef Hash is mind-blowing. Usually have a few solid tap handles as well. It's a small joint, and the prices a bit more, but it's all local ingredients and prepared fresh and they have great service too.

Craft bars and Sports don't always go hand in hand it seems like (we have had similar dilemmas). That said near dinkytown area you do have a lot of options. You should def head over to 7 corners since Town Hall and Republic are across the street and both great. You then also have Grumpys a block west on washington, and Acadia and New Bohemia a couple blocks south. Grumpys I believe is the best bet for sports of these. Rebuplic has the best tap selection, and does also have Sunday brunch.

if you are hitting taprooms, Indeed and DM are the way to go I think since they are so close... If you are interested in any IP trades let me know.

Town Hall does indeed have TVs & there are often sports on (I've watched a number of Twins game there). For a nightcap it might be worth walking to Republic right across the street.

Brasa is one of my top three Twin Cities restaurants. The yucca fries should be banned as an addictive substance & the balance of their menu runs the gamut from great to stunning.

I'd take Indeed if you're looking for good stuff (but stuff you can probably find in cans in many stores) or Dangerous Man if you're looking for variety & tap-only experience.

Good choices for Friday night and Saturday. Town Hall Brewery was just remodeled and will have games on. Republic 7C is right across the street from Town Hall. Stubs is your best bet for Dinkytown. I would take Brasa over Republic but both have solid food. Another option for breweries on Saturday would be Steel Toe although its in St. Louis Park. Best spots for breakfast are Al's Breakfast near the U, Hell's Kitchen and Keys downtown, The Lowry in Uptown, and The Copper Hen and Victor's 1959 Cafe in the Whittier/Southwest area.

Dangerous Man is a must stop. If you like Belgians, Boom Island is right across the river. Also nearby is Sociable Cider Works - they usually have a few beers on tap. Sometimes there is a wait to get into Indeed, and as previously mentioned, you can get their beer in stores.

Day Block is over there on Washington, too. And don't forget Freehouse! :grinning:

The pretzels at Day Block are particularly addicting.

If you're willing to go downtown, I'd toss Butcher & Boar in as an option for places to go. Don't know what its like on the weekends (I assume kind of crowded since it can get crowded during the week), but they have very good food and a solid beer list. If you have someone in your group that isn't a beer drinker, I'd absolutely go to Butcher & Boar as their cocktail and wine lists are as good or better than their beer list.

Most importantly, bring some beers for some IP trades

I would definitely check out Al's for breakfast. The other spots are highly recommended too, but if you can only eat one breakfast in the Twin cities it has to be Al's.

I'm glad I found this thread! I'm making a similar trip but staying in Minneapolis for over a week. What are some good bottle shops to hit while I'm there?

First off, no bueno on sundays due to stupid laws! Other than that, that really depends on where you are located - some of the popular ones I go to are:
    Ale Jail - St. Paul
    Zipps - Minneapolis
    Elelated - South Minneapolis
    Surdyks - NE Minneapolis
    BoozeMart - St Paul
    Four Firkins - Edina
    South Lyndale - Edina

if you have a car and a couple hours to kill Casanova Liquors in hudson is ALWAYS worth the trip, and really not that far at all. You can get your fill of new glarus, and they always have Toppling Goliath on tap for growler fills and/or drinking (sometimes have bottles too).

Princeton's is good if you are in the north west of the cities.

Wow, a lot of really good info and really quick!. I'll be staying North of the city near Blaine but I'll have my own car and plenty of time in the evenings to go explore. If anyone wants some quick Chicago shelf stuff or check out my "Gots" and want to set up a trade then just let me know. I come up there in two days.

If you are staying in Blaine, Bricks has a descent tap list if you are looking for something close.

Princeton's would be the closest with an excellent selection. As long as you're on the north side, consider a short trip up to Hammerheart's taproom in Lino Lakes - they are brewing some great beer.

Northgate Liquors @ 125th and Central in Blaine isn't too bad for craft beer.
