I have a new employee coming to beer hell from Minnesota and he's willing to bring me some beer. What should I ask him to bring, all I've ever heard of are Surly beers but I know there must be more going on up there.

Liftbridge is good and they are back to bottling

Flat Earth's Black Helicopter Coffee Stout just came out

Those are two off the top of my head I can think of.

They can also get Founders, Bell's, Brooklyn, Stone, Deschutes, etc. locally.

I'm only looking for beers made in Minnesota, I can get most of those out of state beers already. I'll ask him to bring some Surly, Central Waters and Steel Toe(since he'll be working on a drilling rig),and that flat Erth sounds great too.

If he is limited by space the Flat Earth Black Helicopter should be the first thing to go. Personally i wouldn't even bring it. It tasted like three day old coffee and had an oily feeling to it. I would not recommend it at all. Keep in mind that's just my opinion.

I wanted to say this earlier, but didn't. If you want coffee beer, go for Surly Coffee Bender or like jera1350 said, Great River Redband Stout.

that's because you are more classy then i am...lol

Seriously though i was pissed i even spent $5.99 on it. I'd say it was on par with that Pink bottle from Mid's tasting. That bacon one that smelt oh so delicious but was incredible hard to take down.

Don't forget the Cherry Bean Coffee stout from Brau Bros. Moo Joos is better, but the Cherry Bean is pretty good.

Personally I thought both were too sweet. Redband was much better, although not brewed in MN

If we are talking about beers that you could bring home in bottle/growler vs draft only brews, I'd go...
    1. Steel Toe
    2. Olvalde
    3. Brau Brothers
    4. Lift Bridge (special bottles released so far)
    5. Harriet
    6. Etc. etc.

Dude I liked that beer a lot! It just had to warm up! Stop hating on me and my beers Mista! You need to forgive and forget everything about that tasting. We are friends now, remember

Steel Toe, Surly, Summit Unchained, Town Hall if they'll bring you a growler. Ovalde is supposed to be good but I haven't tried it yet. Some stores have 6 pack Schell samplers which would be a good pickup.

Frankly, IMO, recommendations beyond those are homerism. Not that they're all bad breweries but they're not worthy of having a friend seek out for you.

I would go with the Lift Bridge Irish Coffee Stout!! Very tasty!! Can get them in 750ml bottles while they last! The true question is what types of beer do you like would narrow it down for you as well.
