    Hi Ya'll,

Just recently got my 30-day BA coin, and am shipping out quite a bit of beer on Tuesday. Yay! The only problem is that I'm relatively new to the craft beer world, and I'm not sure on what Minnesota beers I should include as the extras. Nor do I know if there is a general rule of thumb on how many extras to throw in (most of the trades are about $40 - $60 in bottle value).

I'd like to convey how appreciative I am of people doing the trades they are doing, and encourage them to trade with me again. I was thinking Surly (Furious in particular), Sweet Child O Vine, and Saga. Am I on the right track? Or will I just be exposing my n00b colors, and ensure no one trades with me again?

Finally, and totally unrelated - are there any regular bottle shares in the Twin Cities? I'd love to share the spoils of my trades and get exposed to different beer!

Thanks in advance for your help!

Anything from Steel Toe , Indeed or Bent Paddle would be nice MN extra's IMO

Anything that's decently rated and not available in the recipient's market is a good rule. I always check their beer wants to see if I have anything that they're searching for. I've extra'd anything from local shelf beer, to '08 BCBS, to homebrew, to Brettanomite. Typically I throw in higher end extras for trades in loving higher end bottles. 2-4 bottles seems good, depending in the size of the box.

If they can't get it in their state, it is a good choice to send as an extra

I like to send anything I'm into lately, sort of the modern equivalent of giving someone a mix CD of a band you've started listening to - like Hey, check out Blakkr, see what you think. Breweriana can be good too - sometimes when I visit a brewery I'll pick up a glass or an opener to send as an extra.

In addition to MN-only beers and others that the recipient can't get in their area, if you're able to get TG PseudoSue, it's a perfect extra - it's fairly inexpensive and almost everyone loves getting it. If you're close to the WI border, New Glarus tends to go over well, especially the bombers and seasonals/Thumbprints.

I would also suggest checking out your trade partner's "wants" as well as their ratings. It's nice to be able to send them something you know they want to try or that they really like. As for MN stuff, Indeed, Steel Toe, and Bent Paddle are definitely good options. The central waters barrel stuff is also great for extras as it's not very widely distributed, reasonably priced, still available if you look around a little, and really really good.

I have also just asked them if there are any beers that they would like to try. That way you will know or get some ideas.

Bitter Brewer is what extras are all about. Nobody is terribly enthused to receive it, nearly everyone is surprised how much they like it.

Agree with other suggestions and would throw in Tyranena's BGW series, easy to find here.

Steel Toe. Every bottle that I have sent out has won great praise from people who had never heard of them. Also, there may even be a few bottles left of Before The Dawn at the brewery, if you ever want to really blow some minds in a trade.

I don't think you can go wrong with Steel Toe or Indeed. Both their everyday offerings are very solid.

I have sent all of our IPAs to a trading partner and they liked Size 7, 11 and Abrasive the most. The nice thing about Size 7 is it can be had for $5. With the prices of most bombers and how good it is, Size 7 can really impress.

I've sent Ovalde's stuff before, especially the Auroch's Horn. Great extra there.

Grainbelt premium is my local extra of choice. But I also have not traded in forever. I have also extra'ed a 4 pack of abrasive in the past.

Worthy Adversary, although it's probably not available now. I received a bottle as an extra and was thoroughly impressed. I'd like to try more Fulton beers.

Worthy is definitely still around, as is War and Peace, Libertine and maybe Patience.

Let me know if you need any of them.
