So I had Ursa Minor Bock and Fitger's Brewhouse Bock on hand and did a little taster...blind but I picked them out correctly so I'll just list them as if I knew.. Ursa....Score 9/10....Cherrywood colored....Nice rich bready/toasty maltiness....clean...top notch...I haven't seen Schell Bock in ages so this might be up there for a regular bock offering in the state for quality..a lot of places do doppels (which I encourage!) but regular bocks are getting harder to find.. Fitger's/ Score 7.5/10.....Dark brown color..toasted toffee...taste brings more of a dark cocoa/chocolate flavor...it's good but too heavy on the cocoa notes....
Your beer and write up looked great from the link. Quite a few breweries are doing this in Minnesota ,have not tried it yet. https://www.instagram.com/reel/CbknwKbFLH7/
I was at the Ursa Minor taproom on Sunday and their bock wasn't on the menu. Bummer, sounds like I would've really enjoyed it.
Is Schell's not releasing Bock to distribution? Bock still shows up on their website as a January to March seasonal release. I will be very disappointed if Bock goes away like Hefe did.
I think there was a misunderstanding of Brewer Berg's Bluesky post. He said that they'll also be releasing bock in the taproom. I take that to mean 'in addition to' packaged and distributed product. There's no way that they've scaled back production and distribution of their bock.
Bock is available, I just saw 6 packs two days ago at Westside Liquors in Little Falls. Best of luck on your hunt!
My apologies to everyone for my stupid rant about the Bock. I did in fact misunderstand it. I will however, not apologize for my Hefeweizen remark. That needs to be in distro.
