I stopped by the Summit Beer Hall this evening and had a couple pints of Phazer. It is a really tasty IPA, but in "real life" not as turpid-looking as the picture on the Summit web site. It has the aroma and taste of a well-done American IPA... citrus & pine with a nice bitter finish.

I've never had any of the "gold standard" NE IPA beers, so I can't compare except in the abstract to what people say they are like, so I'll leave the comparisons to others.

I stopped in as well. It is definitely more West Coast. It is still pretty solid, but isn't worth a special trip. I was amused by the fact there was a fly fishing event, birthday party, and bachelorette party there on a Thursday night. I ordered their new saison as well and I couldn't figure out which one was which based on appearance.

Totally Agree, I went out like everyone else it seems and got Dream Yard by Modist and thought damn I paid 12.99 got 4 cans that taste like a watered/light version of Two Hearted without not much to write about . At least the Can art looks good right , but won't be buying again no matter how cool thecans look .

Opened a single can of Insight East - great aroma , almost the same color as Dreamyard but the Insight had way better taste/mouthfeel and hoppyness !

I'm not a big Insight fan but this is excellent.

I thought the East from Insight was just OK. The Dream Yard was fantastic.

I know it isn't East coast as others have mentioned, but that Blissful Ignance is wonderful. I'm in love

It's almost like people just drink what they like.

Agree with this, also not a NE Style but Cone Gnome from Barley John"s is excellent.

I'm not an expert but.....the nose on dreamyard was a tropical blast of ripe papaya and peach/pear. The nose on East was putting your nose in a bag of dank tropical. Dream yard was incredible, East was good but I got a lot more bitterness. I just had a disgruntled stupid good and I would take dream yard over it. Big Modist fan now.

So I had four beers mentioned in this thread today. From Grand Rounds I had Beer J and Mo Citra Mo Problems, and from Forager I had Decent and Kushy Hops. After that many IPAs it is hard to make a clear decision, but my impression and the rankings are:
    Decent
    Beer J
    Kushy Hops
    Mo Citra Mo Problems
All were really good but I think Disgruntled's are better. Brought crowlers of Decent and Mo Citra home with me to try and review in a nice setting with a clear palate. Grand Round's beer has improved since the change of head brewer.

There's a flavor in Dream Yard I'm having a hard time placing. Is it a really grassy flavor? Is it the wheat or oats? I can't figure it out. I like it, but need to figure out the flavor

I would like to know this as well. Whatever it is, I love it, but I've never tasted anything quite like it.

I haven't had Mo Citra, but that's exactly how I'd rank the others.

G-will in B.P. had a good bit of Indeed - East vs. West left yesterday. Gotta ask tho. I can't pick a favorite, but felt both were really tasty representations of each style.

Added two more of these milk shake IPAs in today so that makes 6 in 2 days and my revised rankings: (Judging them by the NE standard even though not all are claimed to be NE IPAs)
    Decent- Forager
    Beer J- Grand Rounds
    Lingerer- Disgruntled
    Kushy Hops- Forager
Mo Citra Mo Problems- Grand Rounds
    Blissful Ignorance- Lupulin

But I think Stupid Good and Reaper are superior to any of these. Besides appearances, I thought Blissful Ignorance was straight up West Coast style.

Tried Dreamyard at the brewery and was underwhelmed to be honest. For whatever reason, be it the different batch or be it a different mindset, these cans are really doing it for me right now. Good stuff.

I picked up a bottle of East Lake's Sun Dogs' IPA at Zipps today (bottled Feb 23., 2017). It's billed as an "east-coast juicy IPA."

It's a very solid IPA, but I'm not sure it quite hits the mark of NE-style. A bit too heavy on the mouthfeel and not quite enough juiciness. If it was in affordable 4/6 packs, I'd probably buy it again. Probably not in $8.99 750s.
