I drove down to Disgruntled after stopping at Junkyard this weekend ... I wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be. Stupid Good seemed a bit thin tasting compared to what I was expecting. Tried Rabid Dog, Reaper and Lingerer as well. Rabid Dog was my favorite of the bunch from what I tried on tap, however I do admit I enjoyed Lingerer and Reaper out of the crowlers I took home to share with my friends more than I did when I had them on tap.

Great vibe in the taproom, though. Really enjoyed it there.

Per Untappd, Grizzly's just added Waconia's New England Style Session Pale.

Is Todd the axeman considered NE style?

While I love Axeman, I don't think, and I don't, consider it a NE style. While Todd has some of those tropical flavors, there's some bitterness to it, and it's not as tropical to the extent that many of these NE style beers are.

Speaking of these, Forager has Hip Hops on, and it tasted mighty fine, IMO.

Had it at their brewery last weekend. Not quite as turbid as I would hope but it is still delicious at 4.3%

Not to pick on you because the appearance is very much a hallmark of the style, but utlimately isn't aroma and flavor about 95% of what we should care about? I mean, who really cares what it looks like?

Regarding Waconia NE Style Session Ale. I did not care for it. I suspect they stuck with their house ale yeast they use for all their flagship beers and single hop IPAs. By the time I had it on-tap on Friday, it was already starting to clarify. The flavor is fleeting and nothing noteworthy about the body. Not sure what hops other breweries are using in their NE IPAs but are they using Amarillo, Nelson Sauvin, and Huell Melon. To me they seem like odd choices.

Because uber-hazy brews get the most likes on Instagram and Untappd, DUH!

All kidding aside, i think the haze factor is a bit overblown. Heady Topper (from my experience) isn't even all that opaque, but is still a tasty beer. I suspect the haze is mostly used as an indicator in beer nerd circles for how fresh a beer is.

Maybe it was your post that made me go into it w really low expectations, but grabbed a bottle tonight and enjoy it a lot.

NE IPA, no, but it reminds me a lot of a softer abrasive, if that makes sense. I'd say it's closer to the abrasive my taste buds remember than this years actual abrasive. The aroma is nice and it's extremely easy to drink w flavors of citrusy grapefruit and that smooth mouthfeel from the oats.

If it were in cans it would be stocked in my fridge, but the bomber format sucks. I'll grab one here and there.

I had the Waconia Ne style session yesterday and was not impressed. The beer isn't anything close to a NE style Ale, zero nose, lack of mouthfeel, no citrus/tropical fruit flavor and an overly bitter finish.

Not sure how much hop choice effects the style vs. how it's actually brewed, dry hopped, etc... but most lean towards Citra, Mosaic, Galaxy, etc.. all the popular citrus-forward heavy hitters

I don't see how Amarillo and Nelson are odd choices for an IPA.

He was strictly speaking for NE IPAs, but as Tree House has shown: all of those hops can pull it off, even if just as additions to other hops (look at all of the variations of Bright for example)

I know but...those hops can do just fine.

    Just curious.

How hard is it to get some Treehouse? Like Green or Julius?

    Or anything from Trillium?

From my recent expierence, unless you get lucky and find a good trader, they want the moon for them. I have seen a lot of people asking for limited once a year stouts or even BA stouts for them.

Grand Rounds new batch of NE Mosiac is pretty solid. He added 7 more lbs of mosiac to this batch and it shows
