I will be in Minnetonka this weekend and I'd like to know about some good liquor stores within a couple minutes. I'll be staying pretty close to the 494-7 intersection. I see u.s. Liquor and wine is pretty close and I've been to 4 firkins, so wondering thoughts on those. Any help would be appreciated!

US Liquor has a great selection but watch out for freshness, some of those bottles have cobwebs. Glen Lake wine & spirits has upped their game lately and has a pretty decent selection now (about a mile from 7/494). MGM on 101/7 also has a great selection. For a nice tap line-up and good food Gold Nugget is across the street from GL wine and spirits.

Thanks for the info. I'm not too familiar with Surly. Do they have canning dates? I would like to try some fresh furious.

They do, check the bottom of the can.

US Liquor is probably the closest with the best selection, then of course Four Firkins is not far.

Recommended stops for taps near by are Gold Nugget and you should definitely check out the STeel Toe tap room. Closed Sunday, so you would have to do it Saturday; call for hours.

Also, the Byerley's/Lunds right across the highway from Four Firkins is pretty good. The Liquor Barrel just down Excelsior blvd has a good selection too. Also also, France 44 is only a half mile from liquor barrel, so you may as well make a tour out of it.

I like this! All of those are awesome stores and relatively close together. And after you run to France 44 if you haven't had enough, it's only a mile or 2 to South Lyndale. And if you still haven't had enough you'll only be 3 miles from Zipps. Someone take this in to St. Paul!
If you do end up going to four firkins and want to grab a drink go to the steel toe taproom. It's just a few blocks away and very good. Just make sure you do all of your shopping before Sunday since everything will be closed.

Thanks to all for the advice. Not sure if I'll have all day to do this  but I will definitely hit up at least two stores if not three. I only go out of state a couple times a year so I will have to load up on out-of-WI-distribution goodies.

Vinafera in Plymouth isn't too far. Neither is Princetons in Maple Grove.

BTW, this weekend is a special event going on at Gold Nugget. 20 brews from 5 local breweries. Actually, from what I just found out, more than just the twenty if you include that there are going to be unannounced firkins. The breweries are: Lucid, Bad Weather and Badger Hill, who all share the same facility, as well as Excelsior and ENKI. Not that you would probably know any of their common offerings, but most of these guys are bringing in some stuff that people around here never see from them.

Sounds pretty cool. Maybe I'll have some convincing to do...

I like Overrated more than Furious. You should also try the Surly Fest for a different take on Oktoberfest.

Should be. Not sure what the latest canning date is, but I have seen it almost everywhere there is Surly. I too like it more than Fury.

It seems to me that 1/3 of the cans I pick up don't have a date on them. Not sure out in the western 'burbs, but most of what I see is generally fresh as Surly is always just trying to keep up.

Ya, there is a recent batch with no dates that ive been seeing for a little while. Their marker must have died or something.

I somehow convinced my wife to go to this tomorrow afternoon. Sounds like a really cool tap takeover. Thanks for letting me know!

At the Golden Nugget, the Lucid Ora Amber Ale was a surprisingly good smokey amber ale. Of course Bad Weather Windvane was the best beer I had. Bad Weather is the featured brewer tonight. Lucid is tomorrow evening.
