Craft beer seems to be of, by and for the white man. I'm trying to compile a list of minority owned breweries. I can only conjure up two.

    Surly Brewing-
    Omar Ansari (Indian or Arabic?)

    5 Rabbit Cerveceria-
Isaac Showaki and Andres Araya (Mexican and Costa Rican)

Am I missing any? Maybe west or east coasters can chime in with some additional info on minority owned shops.

Omars parents are both immigrants, dads from Pakistan and moms from Germany if I remember right.

Brooklyn I think. But really, craft is widely abailable for everyone. Funny generalization.

I think his point is that considering the proportions of the nationalities in the US, there should be quite a few more breweries by people who aren't white men... but (from what I can tell) there aren't. I think the question "Why is that?" is a pretty good one.

Also: Garrett Oliver from Brooklyn Brewery is the brewmaster, not the owner.

Brooklyn is owned by two upper middle class white dudes who left cushy jobs to open it (journalism when it actually made money and finance). Garrett Oliver, who is often the face of Brooklyn Brewery, is the brewmaster of Brooklyn. He may own a minority stake (no pun intended) now that he is such a visible part of the brand, but he was not an original owner. And through his individual efforts as a beer advocate (writer/speaker/brewer), he may be monetarily as compensated as the owners without any stake in the brewery.

Garret may not be a brewery owner, but he's a shining light on the craft beer scene to everyone, regardless of skin color (and sexual orientation, a separate discussion could be had for female or homosexual brewery owners).

While I would have phrased it differently I've been wondering the same thing myself and wish there was a way to have an actual discussion on this topic. Alas, given the responses of half the jokers posting here I'm not so sure. If I happen to see you guys at the bar no need to remind me I'm not welcome.

Men are the minority at 45% of pop., so almost every brewery in America is minority owned.
