Thread not deleted yet?? It combines every topic that these forums are specifically NOT for... certainly legitimate subjects for discussion but probably not here.

Because here I speak a language where typos are acceptable, especially when you're typing in a forum where you can bet that some of the people participating have a beer in hand.

This may be the single best thread I've ever read on this site. (It has little to do with beer, respectfully, but super interesting). Most of the posts are very serious, something perhaps rare for a topic on this site.

I, for one, do not think that the OP is a racist or was being racist. I also fail to see how the question, itself, is a racist question. Be that as it may, I think that anyone could read all of these comments and "see America!" Many of these comments are amazingly transparent and may show a side of the writer that he/she has no idea even exists! This is a study in demographics, social behavior and politics. This is a great thread, having more to do with our country than beer.

The posts that are accepting, the posts that are angry, the posts that are abrasive, etc. etc. Fascinating.

I'd bet that there are several people that could go through here and identify your race and political beliefs without much trouble. This is fascinating and wonderful food (beer?) for thought.

Depends on where you live I guess. Down in Texas there are lot of Hispanic craft beer drinkers.
Race baiting is also a problem.

That and all the crushing regulations and taxes that have an end result (no matter the intentions) of punishing people who attempt to start their own businesses.

I for one agree that this is definitely a reasonable item for discussion. Like any hobby requiring a decent amount of disposable income, the craft beer world really is something that most of the time seems geared to semi-affluent white men.
I'd say that most of us are concerned about the ethical production of beer, and the attention paid to the quality of ingredients, etc. Now, who cares if a beer is brewed with "fair trade coffee"? There are inequalities in the system, and brewing should be no different. Even generalising and saying that Germans brew better beer is a ludicrous statement. As has been pointed out in previous threads...there are 1,200 breweries in Germany, and about 80 million German citizens; I doubt all of them work in those 1,200 breweries...
Being human is about recognizing that we're all human, yes; but that our society has stacked the cards against certain groups of people. Everything from the English dialects we speak, to the names we give our children comes into play in jobs, in college opportunities, and in infinitely more instances. Sure, poverty exists among white people, but as a percentage of the total, it comes nowhere near the pervasive poverty found in other racial and ethnic groups. As it relates to beer...and beer is a business, then yes...I'm all for being aware of breweries that are owned by minorities; because in most cases, they're going to be the true underdogs (not some banker who went through a midlife crisis and decided that beer would be fun).
Of course, I've found that on this site (generally) the assumption is that because I enjoy craft beer that I am an educated, young-to-middle-aged, heterosexual white male, so perhaps I shouldn't try to shake that mindset.

Are there individuals that are being denied the right to open breweries who wish to do so based on their race, gender, sexual preference or religion? If so, then lets be all means have a discussion, but if not, why does this matter?

To be clear, I personally don't mind the thread and find it interesting but the Bros. might have a different take.

There seems to be a perception across the board that craft beer has the image of being a hobby or business for affluent white people. This is somewhat self-fulfilling, which is too bad. We all have taste buds and we should all be treating them well. So how do we make the wonderful world of craft beer more inviting to everyone??

OP never really stated his intentions, so it seems many in this thread are just being hypersensitive.

In any event, it's not hard to see how increased diversity could help any industry, whether that diversity comes from increased participation from women, minorities, people from underrepresented geographic areas, etc. And we ARE talking about an industry where a sizable population of the customer base appreciates or even craves new and fresh ideas.
