So tonight I bought Alpines hoppy birthday 6 pack that recently hit nj to have a nice little session on the Monday back to work after snowmageddon weekend. I'm three in and look and the bottle and it says pure hoppiness and I realize that I'm a lot more buzzed than I should be. I check the six pack carrier and yup 5.25% hoppy birthday. Pull out the rest of the bottles and check the empties and 8% pure hoppiness. Now I'm a bit more inebriated than intended but this is a pleasant suprise for the fact i saved a few bucks on a pure hoppiness sixer. Long story short BA'S have you ever bought a beer and realized after the fact that it is not the one you thought you purchased. Or maybe the liquid in the container is definitely not what the vessel is marketing? How common is this sort of mix up? Let's hear your beer mix up stories!

I've never had it happen but have heard cases where some of a 6 were not as advertised. If talking a typical open 6 carrier, the likely cause is someone making their own assortment, which of course leaves one or more other 6's mismatched.

Yeah that's what I thought at first was external tampering but after all the bottles were not the same as the sixer I thought it was more a packaging error. Especially since who would switch the bottles of a cheaper six to a more expensive one? I also remember when neshaminy creek was first hitting NJ and I got a bomber or their county line Ipa and tribute triple (back when they had the old style with a guy in a canoe and not the punk aesthetic and cans they have now) and having the tribute and then the ipa and thinking they tasted exactly the same.

Yes, likely a packaging error. You could go back to the store and possibly buy more like that, or tip them off - depending on your conscience.

well yesterday i was picking up a sixpack from the grocery store and wanted to check the date on bottle. half the pack was not the correct beer. Somebody probably made their own mix a six

Tag team. One dude switches them up and then an accomplice comes in later to buy the 6 pack. They feel less guilty that way. You screwed them up, you picked up the magic 6 pack .

It's gone all the way through the chain as a cheaper product. Only the consumer is making out on this deal. The brewery has already taken the hit. Nothing to see here.

I've gotten a sixer that was a mix pack, nice surprise. Someone made a mix pack for themselves I guess. And left one for me.

In fact, these packages were shipped to the distributor in the correct mother carton and were sold to the retailer as such. Therefore, it has gone through the chain as a more expensive product. The only hit the brewery has taken is having to send out 6-pack carrier repack material to wholesalers who received this product. They sent out communication on this over a month ago. Whatever distributor that beer came from has cost their retailer some profit due to their laziness.

I've only heard about this where a certain brewery in Chicago went and packaged an entire run in the wrong cans.

Surprisingly found a lonely four pack of backwoods bastard last night and at first was very excited but had a feeling it was too good to be true. I checked the bottles and sure enough someone switched out four bottles of curmudgeon.

When I was first getting into craft beer I emailed the beer guy at my regular store asking for Founders Breakfast Stout, he said he could probably put aside two bottles for me. When I show up he goes to the back and comes up with a full 4pack FBS carrier. I was stoked, paid $25 (I thought that was high but wasn't complaining). When I got home I realized two of the bottles were KBS. Which at that time in my beer career was a HUGE unobtainable whale.

About a year ago, I grabbed a 12 pack of mixed variety of Sierra Nevada. I got home, opened it and it only had 11 beers. That was disappointing. I think it was a missing Torpedo too which was the worst part

I usually just find the case missing one also. It's that 3rd shift!

I emailed Sierra Nevada and the person on the other end said the holiday and variety packs are done by hand which explains it. Then he sent me a bunch of random crap. I was hoping to maybe get a voucher for a free bottle (which I have seen done before in the food industry).

Does this count? I guess not. (Gotta love those NYC prices and chutzpa) @TongoRad , correct me if I'm wrong, but I heard that this is the version brewed in Ireland.

Not exactly the same thing but a month back or so the TW "limiteds" sign had Allagash Farm to Face listed so I asked the guy behind the desk for one. He turned around, bent down under the counter, grabbed a bottle and put it in a brown paper bag and then a TW bag. I got home...not a farm to face.
And sure, it's also partially on me to have checked the bag before I got home, but I assumed a little competency. Never did get a farm to face either. haha. :slight_frown:
