A lot of stores around me now have begun selling mix sixes for $9.99. Recently I found a few beers in the mix sixes that are normally priced well above that. Arcadia Hopmouth DIPA normally $9.99 for a 4-pack and Flying Dog Gonzo Imperial Porter normally $14.99 for a 6. Have any of you guys found treasures in mix sixes, or found beers that were so underpriced that you loaded up?
I'm confused. Can't you just buy the individual beers that you want, whether it's divisible by 6 or not?
I've seen this a few times. Clean those guys out of the Flying dog Imp. Porter. That stuff is dynamite. If I had to guess they probably just have to move it or they had some breakage. That's what's left over.
It's not that uncommon, really. I have even had stores break down 6- or 4-packs to put in the mix sixes if I ask if I can buy a single. Sometimes special goodies will end up there because of breakage/theft or because the store is just cool and likes to let people try one or two of something good for cheap. Often these things come with the written or unwritten rule of "don't be an asshole and use our mix sixes to gain value" by enforcing mix six diversity (max 2/style or something similar).
Also, be sure to check bottling dates when you can. Some stores will use the mix a six to clear out older product, which might be good for high ABV beers but usually not so good for APA/IPA/DIPA. Have definitely plundered a mix your six shelf with stuff that was more expensive than the the flat rate price they were charging.
