I never would have guessed that it could potentially take months for a box to arrive. That's...excessive. I'm glad to hear you ultimately got your box. Hopefully that's the case here, and with everyone else waiting on a box. I guess that's a glimmer of hope though, so I won't write it off as lost just yet. Thanks for sharing. This will be the ultimate exercise in patience.

I would always recommend a call into the shipper. They don't make it convenient but of you're patient and actually speak politely with a human being its the best way to get answers/results. I always like to claim missing box is from/to a relative, especially a young relative, and especially for a special occasion. That seems to tug enough heartstrings usually

If only the customs form didn't say "cooking oils". "Hi there, my box is missing. You see, my sweet little niece Maybell sent this oil. She's only 6, you know. Here, let me explain... It isn't just regular olive oil. This is special olive oil for me and my wife's fifth anniversary! Hmm? Yes, olive oil, that's correct. Yes, special olive oil.. What's special about it? Well, uhh... We were going to get all slicked up and make a night of it, and the regular Costco stuff won't cut it... It has to be this special occasion olive oil from little Maybell! Hello? Hellllooo??..."

I don't know if the ol' heartstrings theory is gonna fly with this one, but you're right. Maybe a phone call is in order.

It happened to me today with USPS. It was priority mail shipped last Tuesday and was supposed to arrive Friday. It came today instead. It was two bottles of DeGarde. Now I’m a nervous wreck, just wondering if the beers sat in a hot van over Sunday. I intend to open one tomorrow but still...

While I understand your apprehension, I promise you that they will be ok.

Slightly related: shipped a box to a person I proxy for, STL to NY. Left STL yesterday and the delivery got updated to 7/17.

it’s not even missing yet but maybe they really are that backed up now.

I would hope that's a typo. Taking a month to deliver a box is completely unacceptable.

People ship food products via fedex all the time and some of it can be highly perishable. Typically, shipping cross country takes 4 or 5 days, maybe 6 or 7 if there's some sort of delay. For most food items, I would probably be OK with that, but a month? That's inexcusable.

Even via ground shipping, sending something from STL to NY shouldn't take more than 3 or 4 days. What possible excuse or explanation could there be for a month delay? If I were in your shoes, I would contact FedEx for an explanation.

It left wherever it was in IL so I’m guessing whenever it gets to the next place it will update.

Update: they delivered that box today. So not 7/17.

I was sent a package that arrived in St Louis at about 8PM on a Monday, and the next update, which didn't show up until Friday, was "In Transit to the Next Facility". It finally got to Albany, NY the following Wednesday. So nine days to travel about 1000 miles. I'm guessing that somebody just forgot to unload it at some point and it did some extra traveling. This was via USPS.

Like others above, I've never shipped USPS and have never had anything this extreme happen with 100+ boxes sent via Fedex.

    Going through it right now.
Trying to help a friend, who was going through hell, complete a beer trade. Sent the package via USPS out on the 22nd of June from St. Cloud, MN to the Tampa, FL area. Was supposed to arrive on the 29th.

Last update was on July 2nd from Jacksonville, Fl, that it was moving through the system. I have submitted a lost package request.

    Fingers crossed.

I am another statistic here on 2 incoming packages.

One package sent on 7/13/20 from Johnston RI to Bridgeport PA through FedEx was supposed to arrive on 7/15/20 but stopped moving last week on or around day 7/15/20. Filed an investigation with FedEx on 7/20/20. Waiting for them to contact me with an update.

Second package sent on 7/14/20 from Seabrook, NH to King of Prussia PA through USPS was supposed to arrive on 7/18/20 but stopped moving on or around day 7/19/20. This one is still early on but i find it interesting that another package from New England is held up. This time in Philadelphia Network Distribution Center.

Yes, actually I just got one about 10 minutes ago. I sent out said package on June 22nd. It arrived today, July 21st.

So, the guy has 2 big packages of beer mail, and the saga is over. I just hope the stuff tastes good still.

FedEx FREQUENTLY has different updates if you call 1800GOFEDEX than what is on the tracking software.

    -Check the online info.
-Then call the 1-800 number and enter it in.
-Then just say "representative" again and again when prompted until you get a real person... then give them the tracking number.

Often when I ship packages back east, they don't update OUT of the Salt Lake City hub ... nothing updates until it hits the next hub. But if I call in, it often has updates that just aren't shown online.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks @JohnGalt1 for the information. I spoke with a representative from FedEx yesterday. The representative acknowledged the package hangup and opened an investigation. FedEx took my contact information and is suppose to contact me. Still waiting.
