This JUST happened to me as well! With someone I've already traded with multiple times. Can't nail him down for an answer about shipping the bottle. I'm REALLY hoping he does the right thing, because so far we've had a decent partnership. But, we'll see...

And my missing bottle was a '15 Sucaba. :slight_frown:

This. Things don't always stop just because you're gone, so it's very possible he was buried with work upon returning.

How many total bottles were there? What were the bottles that you did receive? Was the communication at all complicated, ie multiple messages prior to reaching an agreement or reaching an agreement & then expanding for additional bottles with some back & forth messaging or making changes to the agreed upon bottles prior to shipping?

While i haven't yet forgotten a bottle I nearly did a couple of times when the agreed upon bottles were scattered throughout a series of messages or changes were made to the original agreement. I also had a Cran-bic break in a box which FedEx re-packed & delivered minus the broken bottle. At least that's what we assumed happened because the box was shy one bottle & the remaining bottles were somewhat sticky.n Since I was shipping beer & never got a nasty gram from FedEx I didn't ask any questions.

Mistakes happen, I was packing 2 boxes once and switched the labels. That sucked. had to send new lables to both guys. What a Cluster that was!!!

I messed up a bottle and alerted them before it arrived - since it wasn't on the shelf it took me a while to make good on it.

I've also had a reputable trader, early on, send me wrong cans altogether and just told him not to worry about it (totally wrong style from what was discussed). It was a smaller trade and he offered to make up next trade but I wasn't interested in sending another his way. I wouldn't trade with him again. However, I've made a friend with the one I went overboard to make it up to.

In short, don't burn a bridge that could lead to a good relationship just yet. Mistakes and drunk packing do indeed happen!

The only personal friend I've ever traded with (meaning we were friends in "real life" way before I had even started my BA account) one time screwed up and left a bottle he'd wrapped up sitting on the counter. He of course made it up to me on our next trade and I sympathized with him because one time I had a box all taped up, ready to ship out and then I walked back into the kitchen and saw a bottle wrapped up that I spaced on putting in the box. Luckily I realized my mistake before I went to ship rather than my friend who shipped, came home and went "d'oh!" You never know when that newly met BA you're about to do a trade with is a stoner or not :flushed:

Sometimes this works out for the better for my trade partners too--Like, "Oh crap. I threw that, and that, and that, and that, and that in too? Oh well. Enjoy!"

Let me know if this doesn't get straightened out...

I did this once. Worst part of it was one of the guys wanted to keep the box I sent him instead of the box he was supposed to get. Big mess, very embarrassing, had to send apology boxes to both guys. We all ended up to be partners, though. Sometimes mistakes are just a way to prove reliability by willingness to take care of things that go wrong.

I will take a stab at it, in other instances on this forum people have posted questions or called out "bad" traders and exposed themselves in the process. In this thread, it could be perceived OP pulling the trigger a bit quick here. if trader in question made an honest mistake and is making good he probably wouldnt be happy to see a thread like this.

Yep pretty much what happened. Insert foot in mouth. Oh well live and learn I guess. Also never was my intention to call anyone out just seeing what I should do about the situation and was a little to impatient.

I just did this for the first time two weeks ago. I was packing a ton of boxes at the same time due to weather backlog. I write everything down and cross each bottle off a list as I go and still forgot one of the agreed upon bottles. I told the guy I would get him out the agreed upon bottle once the weather breaks. I'm I a bonehead, yes. Scam artist, hardly, and it will end up costing me in the end b/c I have to ship another box.

If i forgot to ship a bottle I'd be tripping over apologies and bm the guy every day until box was in hand. Mistakes happen like Dave said, but don't go silent for 5 days either.

^^^^This! I would be jumping through my ass to make it right. I understand people get busy, but who doesn't have some sort of smart phone/tablet that they check their email with. I get notified via email every time I have a new PM. Just my 2 cents.

So, what actually happened? Not clear from your post.

To be fair, the trader that "forgot" the bottle DID say he would take care of it AND communicated he was going out of town for 4 days. This thread was started on the 5th day...he may not have even known the OP was worried at all at this point - hence the "foot in mouth" part.

I've done that once. I packaged a box and shipped it, then after returning home I found one bottle on my couch, it got mixed up in packaging material. I immediately contacted receiver and told him what happened. I sent that bottle the very next day, along with a hitchhiker or 2.

My trade partner contacted me last night and said he would take care of it. So I guess this thread was a bit premature. He was also given a heads up on this thread and I assume he's not happy about it so like I said insert foot in mouth!.

Eh, you didn't call anyone out by name and were more or less asking for advice. I wouldn't say that is a foot in mouth situation. Also, it is just bad form to go quiet for so long after forgetting to ship something, business trip or not. Hope it works out.

Lots of speculation and weird unhelpful comments. OP followed a pretty decent protocol, IMO. Asked for advice, wasn't bitching about it, and didn't name names.
