After many great trades over the years, I've had my first problematic one. It is an interesting case, which is why I avoid using the term "bad trader" in the title. However, the situation needs to be addressed. I entered into a trade with Kodi in early April. One of the terms of the trade was an expansion - I would send him a Founders Curmudgeon's Better Half and he would send me a Crooked Stave Origins b2. We decided to ship at the same time; even though he was a newer BA, he had good trade references. When the box arrived, there were four bottles contained that were not part of the trade: CS Vielle, CS St. Bretta Summer, Almanac Valley of the Heart's Delight, and Almanac Pluot. I contacted him to get some clarification. He said the two CS beers and the Pluot were meant as extras but the Valley was for another trade. He had mixed up the Valley and the Origins and sent them in different boxes. He said he would try to resolve the issue but that I could keep the extras and the Valley for the trouble. He messaged me on April 22 saying he had obtained the Origins and would be sending it on to me with a couple more extras for the trouble. Again, he reaffirmed that I should not send the Valley back. I replied thanking him for his efforts on that same day. Since then, I sent a message on May 21 asking about the status and a follow up message on May 30. I sent another message on June 16 asking about the status. I have not heard from him and I cannot access his profile page. I do not know if that is due to a privacy setting or if he has closed his account and will not be heard from again. This is a unique situation because I theoretically got monetary value and deliciousness value from the trade (Almanac Valley is delicious, IMO). However, I did not receive the Origins and I am out the CBH, which was the original trade. Since I am out beer and did not receive my end of the agreed trade, I am starting this thread. I contacted one of Kodi's previous trading partners to see if he has heard from him or can access his profile. He said no to both. I know there is no longer a bad trader list so I am not sure if this is the right forum for this. I have seen other similar posts so I figured it's fine. I doubt I have any recourse since Kodi has fallen off the map. Just wanted to notify the board. I welcome any comments; if this is technically not a "bad trade" I will willingly admit such and take this post down. Cheers!
Unfortunately, I did not. I realize this was not the best approach and have since begun using that for all my trades. However, at the time, I had not yet begun to use the function.
Gotta use the trading function!! Don't ship till both parties accept. Glad u r not really out beer tho, @Kodi are you there?
Some comments: Yes, this is the correct forum for inquiries of this nature. As you now know, use the trade feedback system. Always. Get a phone number or email address so you can contact your partner outside BA. This is particularly relevant in this case since the account of user @Kodi is now closed. Last activity was April 22nd. I'm not sure why it's closed, but it is. Unless he starts up/started up another account with a new name and someone can trace him, there's not much we can do from here. If you're really craving that Origins, B2, send me a shipping label. I'm pretty sure I've got one I can send you.
Thanks for the comments. The use of the trading function is really a red herring in this case - even had both parties accepted, the box Kodi shipped would still have contained the wrong beer. The only difference is that I could now leave him bad feedback but it wouldn't correct the problem, especially since his account has been canceled. That being said, I am now using the trade function for my trades. It takes some getting used to for those who are used to the old way but I'm getting there; it is not rocket science. F2brewers, feel free to close this thread down...doesn't look like anyone else will be trading with Kodi since his account is closed so a bad trader thread is not of much use. Thanks!
