Traveling to Mississauga for a few days for work. Any recommendations on craft beer bars or shops? Wouldn't mind smuggling a few gems across the border! Cheers
Great Lakes Brewery. I think Thrust! is about to hit if it hasn't already. If you have time to venture into the city there are plenty of other options.
As a Mississauga resident I am sorry to tell you that this city SUCKS for craft beer. The only bar you'll find with a half ass craft selection is West 50 and I would not recommend going there for a multitude of reasons. A new restaurant just opened up that I have not had a chance to go to yet called Rib Eye Jacks. It is at Mississauga Rd. and Erin Mills Pkwy and from the menu they seem to have a half decent craft selection there. As far as bottle shops go, it is government controlled and you will find the craft stuff at the LCBO stores. The best Mississauaga locations for craft are Meadowvale (Winston Churchill Blvd & Battleford) and Dundas St W (just east of Mavis Road). Not sure where in Mississauga you will be, but if you provide a specific location, I might be able to help you out more.
Claim your purchase, don't smuggle. If you admit to a 12pk they won't pull you over. Unibroue has a few good offerings at The Beer Store and the LCBO. Look for the 17 Grand Reserve it's pretty good and $10.00 for a 750ml caged. Enjoy
I staying on Argentia Road, I passed by "The Beer Store" but didn't have a change to stop in. Had dinner at Rib Eye Jack's, pretty much all Canadian craft beer, except for PBR. I had Mad Tom and thought it was descent. Never heard of most of the breweries though
Glad you found Ribeyes! I am not surprised that you haven't heard of most of the breweries. But there are some fairly solid beers being brewed in Ontario right now. Mad Tom is a good one. "The Beer Store" isn't worth your time, although you can find 6 packs of Mad Tom there (I think) if you want some hotel beer. Based on where you are, you can get to the LCBO at Winston Churchill and Battleford in 5 mins or so. There will be better options there.
He is a USA citizen and there duties for beer are next to nothing compared to ours, so bringing back as much as he would like would probably be a none issue...
went to west 50 last night. I think the selection was better there then rib eye jacks. nothing to write home about, but descent overall. thought it was funny to see some of the crappy american beer (shock top) as being most expensive on the menu. Import duties must be a bitch!
if you're still in Mississauga I would check out the old credit brewery in Port Credit. The amber ale and honey beer aren't spectacular but aren't horrible either. For the price I often purchase the amber ale if I'm in the mood for a relatively mild, malty amber ale
I agree with Liam. That was not the best advice I have seen on here. Don't mean to flame WeisenMike, but Old Credit is pretty terrible beer.
