As an annual winter visitor to the Twin Cities, I've bought mix-a-six packs before heading to the Gunflint. I normally hit Zipps or The Ale Jail. I've read that Elevated Brews is good, too. Are these the best 3 or am I missing one? Any recommendations?
Princeton's in Maple Grove is pretty good if you're anywhere near the NW metro. Pretty close to 494 and I've always had good luck asking if they'll break up something that's not on their single shelves selection.
I like Elevated (as you mention) they will single most any 4 or 6 if not already on the shelf. TW actually has a nice single selection also ...if you want to venture in there.
Casanova across the river in Hudson, WI is only a short drive and well worth it. They have one of the best selections in the area, and a great restaurant.
Stinson used to my the closest liquor to me and my go-to. They do have a decent pick-6 selection, but I haven't tried many others to know if theirs is the best.
For those who venture into one of the conveniently situated Total Wine locations, I'd recommend allowing for extra time to check bottle/date codes. With thousands of singles to choose from, it's much easier to get a past-code bottle in the mix than it is at some of the smaller independent packaged beverage specialists.
The few times i stop into TW, i stick to the seasonal/new singles section, that way i know they are recently released, you are right thou check your dates and and codes at TW, that is if you want to venture in there.
Last week my wife watched me stare in the cooler at a TW before headed to her parents for a BBQ. The dates were horrible, so we walked out w a bottle of wine.
Is there any place that allows you to pull any beer into a Mix A Six? We have Craft Beer Cellar that allows us to do that.
None that I'm aware of... maybe if you call in advance and let the beer buyer know? The last time I was at France 44 @BeerBuyerBill pretty much did that for me, but he already knew I was on my way over for a bottle of Rum King.
They're kind of all over, but these places will let you do 6 bottles of any format for 10% off: Whole Foods downtown Minneapolis, South Lyndale, Top Ten St. Louis Park, MGM Maple Grove, and G-Will Brooklyn Park (iirc). I'm sure there are others too.
6+ bottles (including some bombers) for 10% off at Atomic Liquors in Eagan. 10% off 4 x 6pks (or 6 x 4pks) crafts. Rotating selection. Over 400 beers in stock. Good dates.
