?

What is the bare minimum of beers you would think it would take to represent most styles?

@thisisforever's thread (You only get to drink 3 different beers for the rest of your life. What are they?) got me thinking. I went pretty simple with Bigfoot (hops covered, BW covered, it's a stretch but Old Ale, American Strong Ale and Wheatwine), Dead Rise (pales, low abv, herbed) and Caractère Rouge (sours).

It got me thinking of what the bare-minimum of beers you would think it would take to represent most styles. I know this could open up the can of worms that is styles, but with this pack you are shooting for stuff that transcends styles and has a lot of overlap. So, what beers would you pick if you had to have a six pack with as much diversity as possible to cover the world of beer?

I feel like it would be easier to group them into: BA/Stout, Hoppy/Light/Lager, Sour, Malty, Belgian, Farmhouse (or Other)

Hell, you could even do it by country: America, Belgium, European, Scottish, German, Other (or double up on one)

There is probably a better way, but that is all I can think of with the final day of Max's Hopfest looming ahead of me tomorrow morning.

So, I would add Expedition (couldn't decide on a BA stout), De Dolle Stille Nacht, and Utopias.

p.s. Ugh, so many possibilities. Also, if you can do it in less than six beers, let us know your thinking and if you need more than six (likely), let us know how you would do it.

To make it a bit challenging I'll keep it in my distro area (within an hour or so of my house in North Jersey)

Blue Mountain Dark Hollow Stout (stout, BB aged)
    Rochefort 10 (world class quad)
    Jack's Abbey Mass Rising (hoppy/lager)
    Boulevard Tank 7 (farmhouse belgian)
    Weihenstephaner Vitus (German)
    Victory Dirtwolf (American hops)

I'd live the rest of my life drinking these beers.

Im having a hard time understanding your post. It seems at first you are trying to gather a list that is broken down into beer types. Then for each type your asking for 3 specific beers that represent the beer type the most.

Then at the end your asking to pick 6 beers that would represent the most diversification as far as beer types.

OR im just ******ed which is likely haha

You should have just posted the poll. I like that concept, but then you lost me with all that verbiage.

I've been really trying to appreciate pilsners lately. It wasn't so much about a number but about finding the right one. Victory Pils changed my opinion.

I couldn't appreciate sours until I had like 15 different ones of varying styles. I think having a ton of choices is a great thing. I played the pick 3 game but the reality is I would be sad without diversity.

The Bruery Smoking Wood Rye Barrel Aged (Smoked Rye Imperial Porter aged in Rye Barrels)
    Lagunitas Sucks (IPA)
    Elysian Night Owl (Pumpkin)
    Firestone Walker Sucaba (BBA Barleywine)
Firestone Walker Stickee Monkee (BBA Quad(ish?))
The Bruery Sucre (BBA Old Ale)

I love my BB Aging haha

Or one (or 2) of those could be substituted (if its considered to much BBA) with Cricket Hill Small Batch Smoked Rye, St. Bernardus ABT 12, Bourbon County Brand Stout, or Evil Twin Even More Jesus. Both of those were fantastic beers as well.

But cut me a break, I'm living in Shanghai and I can't get any of those over here so...

I'm Scottish, so part of me loves the shout out.

But we get a separate country listing, while England comes under the "European" catch all?

The problem and question confuse me, but that's not hard to do. Isn't there an algorithm or something for these mind-bending queries? Spaten Lager, Smuttynose Shoals Pale Ale, Bell's Two-Hearted, Founders Porter, and Aventinus, or something like that!

OP posted at 11:58pm. I'm guessing he already had 2 flights of about 11 different styles before he posted.
