So I'm drinking Ballast Point's Indra Kunindra, and I absolutely love it! I'm very familiar with these spices (curry, cumin, cayenne pepper) and they all mixed very well with the sweet chocolate in my opinion. This beer gets really mixed reviews and I totally get it because it's so off the wall..

Anyways what are some beers that you loved that got really mixed reviews?

I also loved Attempted Redrum and the reviews were all over the place.

Oh man I could barely finish Indra Kunindra. I dig curry and spicy food and all but this just hit me as all wrong and burned all the way down.

The fact that we can disagree so much over a beer like this should really be enough for me to never have to see another Pliny vs. Heady thread. This beer is among the most distinctive tasting beers and people can love it or hate it. How can we possibly argue about the subtle differences in hop variations with a straight face?

    Taste, it's subjective. Enjoy beer!

Good job, Indra is freaking awesome . We have a keg right now at work that's moving kinda slow because the description turns a lot of people off, but about 60% of those that try it love it.

So 60% of the time, it works every time?

60% is actually kinda surprising to me. I figured that only a few people would love it and a lot would hate it. The flavor profile is unlike any beer I've had so far.

Ballast Point has been in Florida for several months now, and I still haven't seen Indra Kunindra. I'm really curious about it, so I would like them to send some down this way...

A beer with mixed reviews that I think fits the question is Southern Tier Creme Brulee. It's kind of messy, and absurdly sweet, but I can enjoy a few ounces of it. Now if you make me try to drink a whole bottle, I would sooner vomit.

I agree with the Southern Teir Creme Brûlée. I dont think I'll ever find a better smelling beer. It is so damn sweet though. A full bottle would be tough to finish.

I'm not a fan of the Kunindra at all. My friends and I were curious to try it, but none of us liked it. I can understand how some would, it's just not for me - too spicy.

Creme Brûlée is certainly another I can't finish a full bottle of, but those first 4ozs are amazing.

In regards to recent beers, Founders Mango Magnifico is a tough one. Fantastic start, but a HUGE alcohol burn in the bottom of your throat that just doesn't go away.

For a good sense of how the reviews are stacking up in the love it/hate it department you can check out the rDev- the higher it is, the wider the opinions stray away from the mean. Just for the heck of it I checked out Cave Creek Chile Beer, and it clocks in at a whopping 39.81%

Indra Kunindra is a comparatively low 17.72%

I also checked out some rauchbiers thinking they would be the classic love 'em or hate 'em style, but was pleasantly surprised to see that Schlenkerla Marzen is only 15.35%. I guess people are coming around.

Like Southern Tier Creme Brulee- people either love it or hate, not much in-between.

If I wanted to pump cardamom, cheyenne, and incense into my stomach in high doses, I would gladly drink Indra Kunindra, but after one hard-to-finish 10oz. pour, I decided I like to keep whatever I ate during the day in my body instead of utilizing it as the liquid for my projectile mouth fountain. Never again. Never, ever again.

Good call. To me, Theobroma was drinkable and not too bad, Sah'tea I thought was a tad weird, and Chateau Jiahu....good god, I will never ever have a taste for that beer again.

I had Barrel-Aged Indra last weekend and it was pretty god damn good.. Bourbon really mellowed out the Indian spices.

Not sure if it's 50-50 but it seems that Pumking is a love-hate beer. Personally, I love it.

I really liked it and thought it was a very well made beer with excellent balance.
