Hello, looking for suggestions on 1 or 2 beers to have at my wedding in June. We plan on doing a few kegs. Obviously needs to be palatable for a wide variety of people who may not have experience in craft beer. Right now I'm leaning towards Lift Bridge Getaway Pilsner, as I like that it's local. Thank you! -CP

Looking at this list, Grainbelt, Farm Girl, Summit EPA, and Bauhaus Pils standout as local ones that would appeal to a broader crowd. Their are some other nice choices on there if you want to get a little more beer geeky though.

Drinking the Bent Paddle Winter IPA right now, they are killing it. They have a pils and esb that would be good.

I’ve been to multiple wedding receptions where hoppy craft beer was the only beer available in kegs, going as far back as 2006. To my knowledge neither the bride nor the groom was particularly into craft beer in any of those weddings. For instance, two years ago, I went to a reception where half of the guests were swill-and-brandy-chugging cheeseheads, none of whom seemed to hesitate to drink Summit EPA, which was the only kegged beer available. The closest thing I heard to a complaint was something along the lines of, “I’m mostly a Bud Light man, but this is pretty good.” “Too bitter/hoppy” is common at wedding receptions these days; I honestly don’t think your guests would be bothered by, say, an APA or even an IPA. Just my two cents (which is two cents more than your grateful guests will be paying if there's an open bar).

Maybe a golden or Kolsch-style ale? There are a few 'domestic' choices nowadays, and the style is neither too bitter nor too hop-forward (aroma), and also very easy to drink -- not as strong as a lot of the bigger flagships, either.

I did this a couple years ago. If you can bring whatever you want consider grabbing kegs of what YOU really like (we had spotted cow, which is about the least offensive craft beer in the world, and a keg of saga). We also grabbed a few cases of crap cans (bud, miller light) for any of the older folks, or real fussy drinkers. Everyone was happy and the bride and groom took home a couple extra cases of cans.

Islay has it right though. People love free beer, and if its free, arent likely to be as hesitant to try something new or complain.

We did Oberon and Black Butte. Oberon was a hit for most people.

Despite what some ba's might say, a wedding reception is not only for you, it's also for your guests. Gauge your crowd.
