Just picked up one of these for $1/# delivered to my door...if you are in the market (and probably on the west coast) http://www.williamsbrewing.com/55-LBS-BELGIAN-PALE-ALE-Actual-Cost-Shipping-Item-P3956.aspx
"Used as a base malt or in combination with pilsner base malt to provide a richer flavor. Adds a golden hue to ale, and is ideal for pale ale and traditional English style beers. Made from . Well modified, and easy to mash at 148 to 156 degrees. F. 7° lovibond. We have used this malt extensively and find it compares favorably to Maris Otter." This malt is darker at 7° lovibond but it sure sounds tasty. @GreenKrusty101, please report back on how this malt works out for you. Maybe brew a SMASH? Cheers!
Sounds fun. Williams is a good shop, so will order some up as well, as its been 2 months since I've brewed and need some more base malt to get going. What are you brewing with it Krusty?
I haven't used it, but if I were going to experiment with it as a substitute for M.O., I'd probably start by cuttting it with some plain two-row.
I don't know why, but they always use EBC numbers (even Williams Brewing)...I checked on their website and it is really 3.2-4.3 L http://www.castlemalting.com/Castle...ficationID=140&CropYear=2014&Language=English
Better hurry...ends today I think I brew almost everything with Pale Ale Malt...next up Southern Hemispere IPA and a Mesquite/Chile Stout Cheers btw...Country Malt has a warehouse in San Leandro I think so that's why their prices are good.
another btw...I already bought a sack of Castle's Pale Ale (and Pilsner) last summer....and verily, verily...it was good : )
I believe Victory is proprietary from Briess...essentially Biscuit...I don't use either because it reminds me of Fat Tire : ( Thanks anyway...cheers
In this case, Belgium to San Leandro, CA to Fallon, NV I paid over $20 to get it shipped, but it was discounted ~ $15 (probably old)...so I hope it makes strong beer like bull! : ) I hate milling grain, but what are ya gonna do? Last batches with it were great...roll the dice
Agreed. Great bag price though. I get a bag discount at my LHBS, plus a local homebrewers club discount. Works out to be about $45 after tax.
Wouldn't say Belgium pale malt is a sub for MO. MO yield ... D-power ... and protein are higher. I've brewed with both. Most of my brews are pale ales. IMO ... MO presents a more bready malt character than Belgium.
