So I stupidly traded away my last moat water and I'm trying to track another down. I'm confused regarding the trade value that people are putting on this. I live near ccb and I've had it several times....that being said 1. It sat on the shelf for a while here so it wasn't very limited. 2. It's not a BA stout so the lactose is going to go bye bye, yet most people with this beer are acting like its a very cellar friendly beer or think its barrel aged. I've offered big bad baptist and hardywood gbs. $25 to $~15 What is this going to take??
Huh? Lactose is unfermentable by brewers yeast (its not metabolized), so regardless of whether the beer was barrel aged or not (as long as no brettanomyces or lactobacillus was introduced) it'll still be in the beer and will still produce the creamy mouthfeel and slight sweetness associated with lactose regardless of cellar time.
I didn't say it was a bad beer. It's just not what it used to be. The main reason I'm trying to get another bottle is for a couple of my friends that have never had it.
Did you mean to reply to the OP and replied to my post instead? I'm not looking for the beer or have it. The OP said something about lactose that was way off the map and incorrect, and all I did was try to correct them. Regarding join dates, I joined in 2011, same year as you.
Sorry. Brain is fried writing Ph.D. thesis and caring for 2 week old baby. Carry on with jokes, as the commentary on this site has been a bit stiff lately.
I guess my description was off...I had moat water fresh, and again quite a bit later, and some of that creamy/sweetness has fallen off.
Jesus Guys, I'm glad this became thread-shit central, she asked a question regarding trade value, and it turned to this. Anywho, Unfortunately even when a beer had a long shelf life, if its no longer available, there will be a bit higher value put on the bottle. Not sure what the bottle count was, or how wide distribution was. If it was a FL only release, you might have to give something up out of distro otherwise people who are most likely to have it, have access to most of what you would offer up.
OP I looked at your post, I have a MW and what you were offering was not that appealling to me. I have recieved numerous Big Bad Baptist bottles as extras and I had last years GBS and BA GBS and was not impressed. I think it was just what your offer was that was lacking. The $ amount wasnt a factor. I dont think MW should trade like a HUNA but it should also no trade like a MZ either. It was a one and done for CCB. Even though I was told they will make a similar stout in 2014 just not call it MW. I really dont have anything in mind that I am looking for, but if you want to send me BM with some things you would like to part with I will give it a look. After all the MW is just sitting in my cellar with 100 other bottles I wont drink anytime soon.
Thanks guys. That's why I hate posting in here. Nothing quite like getting attacked when asking a question.
Interesting tactic - run down the beer before trying to trade for it. And to judge by the most recent reviews (even given the inflated scores beers get), it's pretty good for being "not what it used to be". In a strictly marketplace sense of the trade, you're a bit off. GBS is fairly sought after, but brewed each year. Big Bad Baptist is a good beer but comes out regularly & can be had on shelves where it's distributed. Considering that Moat Water won't be made again, you'll likely need to start over or add something more sought after than the Baptist. But this is all pretty obvious to anyone who trades regularly. Anyone who's had Moat Water (I loved it) probably wouldn't do this trade unless you had a previous relationship.
I wasn't attacking you at all, nor do I think I was threadshitting, I Was just stating that I saw your post considered the trade then backed off. As well as offered up my MW to you if you had something else you wanted to part with.
