    Quite frankly, I think most beers on here are overrated. Where a 2.5 is "average", it seems average is bad. When combining "how do I like this beer" with "how well/poorly does this beer match the style", I used to see a "3" as average. Not a huge jump, but a jump nonetheless. And I've changed my ways since. I still have yet to give all 5's, though. Even Superpower (needs more hops!!)

    Just to clarify ... we use a 1-5 scoring system, so the average is 3. And the average across all beers with 10 or more reviews is currently 3.69, which is lower than it was prior to yesterday's update.

    That could be said for any review system. A middle rating on movies, restaurants, albums, video games, etc. is all considered shit. Who wants mediocre when you can have greatness?!

    I think this is just evocative of just how important BA reviews can be for breweries and individual beers. I quickly look up BA reviews all the time when I'm considering throwing down more than $15 on any bottle I've not had...I'm actually not surprised - it literally can be the difference between selling a lot of beer...and not!

    This isn't new. CO BAs love hyping their beers. Then they FT them. It's ridiculous.

    I've actually almost never experienced this with Colorado BAs. Before living here and since. I know this is an incredibly common practice with Florida, Missouri, Chicago, etc traders. And sure, it's going to happen regardless of where people are from. But I actually disagree about this being (relatively) common with our guys.

    I think what I do is that I see a 75 as "average" as like a 'C', but all 3s gives an 80, which is a 'B' in grades (above average).
    And then I factor in.....oh no, I've gone cross eyed!! :grimacing:

    I've only seen this with Avery beers... but then again, maybe I just don't like most of their offerings :slight_smile:

    I don't think there's a single user of the mountain forum who hasn't declared "Colorado is without a doubt the home of the IPA" at least once a week. Luckily our complete lack of beers using wild and unusual yeast keeps us in check.

    It really is a good beer. Kinda sad that shenanigans will reflect poorly on it.

    Maybe the reviews are all legit, haven't really heard anything bad about the beer.
