Bourbon Barrel-Aged Monsters' Park Release Modern Times Beer is stoked out of our frickin' gourds to announce the release of a gnarly new barrel-aged beer. Monsters' Park--our hulking, cantankerous 13% ABV imperial stout--was aged in freshly dumped Heaven Hill bourbon barrels for 5+ months. A second version was created by adding a heavy dose of fresh, house-roasted Black House Blend coffee beans. A third version was created by adding toasted coconut & cocoa nibs.

MONSTERS' PARK AGED IN BOURBON BARRELS
Black as oil and thick as blood. A vigorous pour produces a two finger, deep brown head. The mouthfeel is very full, with healthy, prickly carbonation. The aroma pops big time: major notes of bourbon, oak, chocolate, and toasted nuts waft out of the glass. The flavor is very powerful, with bourbon & roast malt leading the charge, followed by vanilla-y oak, caramel, dark chocolate, and those toasted nuts again. The finish lingers for days, with sweet malt and bourbon dominating. A seriously intense but very well-rounded barrel-aged imperial stout. The roasty intensity of Monsters' Park is a beautiful match for the sweetness of bourbon.

MONSTERS' PARK AGED IN BOURBON BARRELS W/ COFFEE
We learned from our first experience adding coffee to barrel-aged Monsters' Park: this beer soaks up A LOT of coffee before it gets to the KA-POW level we're aiming for. So we added nearly 3 times as much coffee in two separate doses to make it really pop. The coffee aroma leaps out of the glass in combination with the intense oak & bourbon notes. The flavor is drenched in fresh coffee, but not so much that it completely overshadows the amazing, chocolatey base beer. The roasted notes in Monsters' Park combine with the coffee to produce a markedly intense flavor, like a chocolate covered espresso bean turned up to 11. The finish is coffee & sweet malt all day, with a noticeable vanilla oakiness & caramel hard candy coming through as well.

MONSTERS' PARK AGED IN BOURBON BARRELS W/ COCONUT & COCOA NIBS
Wow, did this beer ever take a lot of work, but it was totally worth it. We toasted all of the coconut ourselves and went to great lengths to source the perfect combination of cocoa nibs. Needless to say, the results are spectacular & anything but subtle. It pours pitch black with a menacingly dark head that dissipates very quickly due to the fat from the coconut. The flavor and aroma are completely saturated with coconut & chocolate, but blend harmoniously with the strong bourbon & roast malt notes. This beer is explosively flavorful and completely coats the palate with coconut, milk chocolate, toasted bread, dark honey, and roast malt. Truly amazing.

any word on prices and how it will work? You buy 1 ticket for access to a bottle of all three or you buy bottle specific tickets?

So many things to respond to in this thread!

You should have recently received the League email regarding this sale. Sorry for the wonky timing, shit is indeed hectic. As to the larger question, we're in a holding pattern with the League. I plan to keep doing what I've been doing until I can devote enough time to bringing the League up to its full potential. Then we'll reevaluate.
It means you have 2 months to pick-up bottles.
I've said this many times: if anyone has any problems with anything purchased from us, send me a message & I will do my best to fix it. That's a standing offer for everything we make.

As of 5 minutes ago, we've made an 80% improvement on our dissolved oxygen numbers. We had a technician from the company that manufactured & installed our canning line fly out here, and he has basically been rebuilding the thing since yesterday. We're making gainz on the daily. Needless to say, he's not leaving until we see consistently outstanding numbers.
@SDReaper is correct; no ticket necessary. Party goes til 10pm (which is when we close most days).
There are most definitely bubbles. I've made a point of posting pics to social media of frothy pours. The head on the coconut & cocoa nib version does die off very fast due to the fat in the coconut, but all the beers are most certainly carbonated.

    Cheers & thanks,

Prices were listed before on that BPT link but I see it has changed. IIRC it was $24 for the BA and $28 for the other 2...about. Give or take a dollar on each.

And again, at the time the link was active yesterday it was a ticket per bottle. My guess is that it will be the same thing once it goes live for us that don't have that password or whatever tomorrow.

It's 24, 26, 28 bucks each for Regular BA, Coffee, and Cacao/Coconut, respectively. Each ticket entitles you to one bottle of beer you bought the ticket for.

So @ModernTimesJacob, does this mean that now when I come down to the tasting room and ask if Monsters Park is hiding on tap somewhere I won't get the "you must be ******ed sir" stares?

Granted some of the faces they made when I asked was rather comical...but after that faded I got sad and "had" to deal with a devil's teeth instead.

I actually want to do more secret taps, but we just haven't had a deep enough archive to do it. Fortunately, we got a healthy amount of draft from each of the 3 bourbon versions (which is part of why the bottle counts are so low), so you can expect to see these beers at special events and, perhaps, secretly on tap.

Can anybody attest to the quality of their BA program? I didn't buy any of their sours just because they aren't a well-established enough brewery for me to shill out $30 for a sour that has zero reviews.

Their coconut BA beer looks intriguing but we are hitting 50/50 prices.

Modern Times is one of my usual extras I throw in. I didnt buy the sours or their first release of stouts. I think i'm going to skip this release as well. I've had a few of their shelfers, it was decent. Still haven't had any BA stuff though

Their fruited sours were amazing, and the base ones weren't too bad either.

Modern Times is (quickly) becoming one of my favorite breweries. I only had one of the BA Monsters Park originally, but it was damn tasty... undercarbed, sure, but well worth the money.

MT has been improving with every release. I don't expect this release to be any different.

Bummer no Costcos down south are getting these,is there a particular reason why or
is that something that you can't speak on?

aside from the well documented carb issue on the last release, those all tasted absolutely amazing to me (i maxed on all). knowing that they are obviously going to go out of their way not to repeat that mistake, combined with how impressed i was on last ones, i am psyched to get these new bottles. the coconut MP sounds like it's going to be incredible

The Rye BA Monsters Park was pretty good, but the Tennessee Whiskey was boozy and not as good as regular Monsters. Prices are definitely on higher end, hopefully they continue to up quality to justify the cost.

The sours are amazing! I jumped on that bandwagon real quick, especially considering who they brought in to help start their sour program.

Yeah, I have no idea. This is one of those situations where I'm several steps removed from the person who makes these decisions. Hopefully this test run goes well, and we're able to expand the distribution to more locations.
