I was actually surprised no one posted about it over the weekend. The site went live on our events page on Friday, and I got emails about it from other beer nerds, but no one in the Pacific Forum. Ya'll need to up your cyberstalking game!
The ABC allows three options for beer festivals in San Diego: 15x3oz pours, 10x4oz pours, and unlimited 2oz pours. Given all the rad beers we're bringing in for this, we felt unlimited 2oz pours was the best option.

    Cheers & thanks,

You obviously are not familiar with the Dude. This is the way he rolls.

Thanks for the answer, Jacob. Very enlightening...

Agreed. The hype train on them has to reach SoCal at some point. Whenever I'm back in New York, tracking down their brews is essential.

This is a great lineup. Boneyard Notorious is like PtY without all the hype. Garage Project was the best all around brewery I found during my two weeks in New Zealand recently and Pernicious Weed might've been their beer I tasted. Maybe not quite on the same level, but it reminded me a lot of Alpine Nelson. I'm excited and I haven't even bought my tickets yet.

I did not know that. Crazy rule. But they let you sell extra drink tickets on top don't they? I'm thinking about the pizza port festivals. Always 10 4oz pours and then you can buy extra drink tickets for like $2 on top of that.

Sorry for the hostility. Me and ticker pours are arch enemies. When they attack the ones I love (IPAs) I go into rage mode and blackout. I don't remeber posting that, but now my keyboard is smashed to pieces and the clothes I was wearing last night are all torn up.

No, they don't let us sell extra drink tickets. The confusion stems from the fact that some festivals in San Diego are held on pre-existing licensed premises, like Stone's various themed fests. If you're holding an event in a space that already has a license, you don't have to apply to the ABC for a one-day license; you're just pouring beer in your tasting room. Unfortunately, we don't have enough of our own space to hold a festival on this scale, which is why it's at the Waterfront Park. Enter, the ABC.

    Cheers & thanks,

I get the argument about awesome local transportation option in relation to no designated driver tickets, but that does not apply to anyone who is not local...so, most likely sitting this one out.

airbnb can be pretty cheap. I am staying in SD for Comic Con for $30 a night. I would assume for something that is not a huge event they can be just as cheap.

I don't understand these rules. I understand the municipalities don't want people getting sloppy drunk and falling over in the surrounding area, but 40 oz should not do that to someone. I honestly don't think anyone should be falling over drunk after 60 oz over 5 hours either. Also, I don't understand the lower oz per pour the more you can have. Smaller pours lead to people drinking faster in my experience, and faster drinking leads to over intoxication quicker.

Not blaming you by any means, but at least you are in contact with some of these people and can point these things out.

Most beer festivals I go to have multiple people who are royally f'ed up.

I am not denying this at all. There will always be people who don't know the limit, and that go too hard in the beginning and end up over served in too short of a time.

The point is, put less in the glass, and people are going to feel like it isn't that much that they are drinking and drink much more, and much faster. Put more in the glass and you have a much better visible signal on how much you are drinking. Think about it in a hard alcohol standpoint. You drink a cocktail much slower than you drink a shot.

I understand why the ordinance is the way it is, but I just think it is misguided. Would love to see some real world experimentation on this.
