Modist Brewing is finally opening this month - the soft open (invite only) is this weekend, with the grand opening on 4/15. Really excited to see what they will be putting out. I threw in for the club, and I have to say I've been pretty impressed by the marketing/merchandising side of things. (Nifty box design, great branding, wonderful sense of humor.) The space itself looked impressive when I did a quick tour.

Really hoping the beer is up to the level of everything else. They have a beer list up on the website, but it doesn't have a ton of information. Hopefully the descriptions get a bit more expanded as time goes on. The header brewer is the former brewer for Dangerous Man, so I have my fingers crossed. In light of @maximum12 's post from today, I would note that they seem to recognize the importance of always putting out a quality product. From a Growler Mag interview - “My philosophy is that if a beer is sub-par, you don’t serve it,” Keigan says. “You’re not going to be perfect every time, but you do way more damage serving a bad beer than you do dumping it out. It’s okay to make mistakes, just don’t make them again."

Per facebook, they will no longer accept people into their "Modest Makers" club after they open the doors for their grand opening on April 15. It's a pretty good deal if you like to gamble a bit - you're investment is returned in the form of tap room credit + some additional funds to spend on beer or merchandise.

Are any of you going to have a beer named after you?

I just signed up for the $250 since I haven't tried the beer yet. I really dislike kickstarters similar to Four Firkins, but one where you actually receive more than you pay for makes sense to me. I liked just about everything Keigan did at DM, so I'm not worried about getting my moneys worth.

I liked it. Thought the space was really great (and will be even better once they can open up the garage-style doors in the summer.) Nothing too original or interesting on the beer side yet, but what they did have (3 beers) was solid. Thankfully no "bad beer" infection issues. They are going to be doing some sort of coffee lager that I'm looking forward to trying, along with a sea salt caramel.

Looks like they are "softly opening" most days this week before the grand opening Friday for those that are interested in checking it out.

Hopefully the beer is good. The names of the beers irritate me for no reason.

Thanks for the heads-up. I'll be downtown taking in a Twins loss on Wednesday night, this looks like a great spot to swing by.

I wonder... if they brew Smoove, will they hear from TG's lawyer?

I was curious about that as well. Does sound like an interesting beer. Want to try it.

Appreciate the feedback. This is one of the startups that I was hoping to check out when they opened rather than wait a few months.

Was there tonight. Had one beer. It was pretty good. Kinda reminded me of Bitter Brewer.

And it sounds like they are doing a soft opening all week.

What exactly is the difference between having a soft opening all week, and being open?

I stopped yesterday and really enjoyed the place. They didn't go toward any weird direction, likes some breweries. The space is great and the beers I had were solid.
They had 6 beers listed, but were only serving 3. I think the soft opening was to get things figured out, and to save the other 3 beers for the official opening.
    I couldn't believe it wasn't busier yesterday.

I may no longer get Twins tickets, rather hit the 3-4 breweries and sit outside and watch the game on the plaza!
