    Does anyone have experience aging Caldera's Mogli? I tried one a few months back and was underwhelmed. It seemed extremely thin for an imperial porter. At any rate, I bought another to cellar and was curious to know how it improves with age.

    Keep us posted. My wife and I like it a lot and I am sitting on a bottle as well to see how it does with a year or so on it.

    Regarding the OP's comment - what would cause it to get more body? I'm not under the impression that cellaring will make it thicker. Am I misunderstood? If so, can you explain the process that changes body?

    The beer's thinness was just one disappointing quality; it had a weak nose and was rather bland for a chocolate imperial porter. Chocolate notes were slightly noticeable at best. What I am curious about is how the beer's overall characteristics improve with time, not whether the beer will become more viscous after cellaring. Sorry for any confusion.

    Got it. I would imagine the flavor is only going to get less pronounced over time, not more. The chocolate certainly isn't going to pop more later on. Sounds like a beer you just don't like and won't like more with age.

    I'm actually hoping to put a few of these away to see how they age. In my experience the chocolate flavors hold up well over time while some of the barrel flavors and heat subside. Worth holding on to at least one to find out I guess.

    One of the best cellared beers I've had was a Southern Tier Choklat that was about 4 years old. Pretty much like chocolate milk! So friggin good. I've had similar results with Chocolate Yeti so I'd hope Mogli would turn out the same way. The BB aging would be the question mark.

    I opened a 1 year aged Choklat at a share a few months ago and it was one of the best beers of the whole event. Can't imagine what another 3 would do to it!

    I can't see the Mogli getting thicker. First of all it's a porter. If you can get past the fact that it will never be a thick stout then you will find this beer very good. Like I did a couple weeks ago when I had it for the first time. The chocolate notes are fantastic.

    I aged a bottle for a year and opened it recently. I was disappointed as I think I had my hopes too high. Like most people have mentioned, the overall thinness of the beers was the least appealing part and the barrel nuances were muted. Was it a bad BA porter? Absolutely not. I would drink it again for sure. I just wish that it wasn't so expensive. Fresh may be the key to this beer for me.

    DON'T. Had one with no bottle date but I know it had been in the store for over 6 months, it was much better fresh.

    Thank you. Good to know, as you and @Cubatobaco said the same thing about freshness being key. Guess I know which beer I'm cracking tomorrow :-).

    Just to echo, I've aged a Mogli for over a year with some crappy results. Enjoyed this one much better fresh.

    Didn't read all the replies, but my story is as follows. I had a batch about a year ago and was overwhelmed. Very roasty and a nice medium-heavy mouthfeel. It looked like a promising age. I ordered more online and cracked one. Just the same. It recently came into distro and then I had an underwhelmed experience. Thin, watery, seemed like a 5-6% beer.

    Recently a new batch came out and while they don't have a bottle date, I noticed it was a restocked item and the wax job differed from the other bottles. I'm cracking one tonight to see how it matches up.

    I recently had one that had been aged for six months, which I preferred to the fresh version. Fresh, it was thin and not overly complex or impressive. Based on the comments in this thread, most people said that it was much better fresh, so I figured I wouldn't hold out any longer. However, the one that had been aged was so much better. The chocolate was more pronounced, it tasted smoother and a little less boozy. It even seemed a little more viscous than I remembered, which was what was lacking in the fresh version. Both bottles were purchased at the same time so I can't speak to any batch differentials, but I definitely preferred it aged. I wish I held off a bit longer before opening.
