Just converted my first chest freezer to a temperature probe controlled cellar. Had a few folks advise me to invest in some sort of moisture abatement, as they have had massive black/green mold issues because freezers aren't meant to hold these temps. Is this a real concern? Anyone else seen this? I've had some recommend caulking the seams.

Place a few containers of damp rid throughout the cooler and take everything out at least once a year for a thorough inspection. I've been doing this for years without any issues.

Exactly what I'm doing and it's working like magic! I use two or three containers in the back top shelf where cool air exit. You remove water from the containers every 3-4 days and you're good!

I heard about this recently in an episode of the podcast Experimental Brewing. Drew one of the hosts spoke about how he got a new freezer and placed beads of sealant along all the seals on the inside to prevent rust and moisture from getting in. It sounded like great advice. I use a freezer less fridge but if I had a chest freezer for cellering I'd follow his advice.

BTW. Experimental Brewing is a great podcast and is a great resource for lots of brewing and non-brewing topics.

Great advice. Bought the Damprid container and placed it smack in the middle, and now I'm no longer getting that condensation moisture along the inside walls. Thanks!
