    Hey All,

I did a relatively deep dive in the search for forums including this, and couldn't find anything authoritative (going back to mid 2013 at least), so here goes:

I am thinking about storing beer on a shelf in my basement that does not see much variation in temperature and receives no light exposure -- the only variable I am worried about it moisture.

How much of a consideration should moisture be when thinking about cellaring? My basement can get pretty humid. I mean it's no Miami during August, but it can get be palpably moist down there.

I've seen some people argue that extreme swings in moisture can cause oxidization, and others argue that it really doesn't effect non-corked beers at all and doesn't really need to be considered.

    Any strong opinions on here?

    cheers!

Just keep an eye on it. If you have paper/cardboard/etc down there now that isn't moldy you're probably OK.

I have had a couple crowns rust on the outside before, but mostly the ones with paper on them. Firestone Walker comes to mind immediately. If you have any bottles that have material that can trap moisture, like the paper or possibly a crappy wax job, pull them off. The benefits those coverings are minimal at best.
