While moving my cellar fridge last week I noticed that several bottles had mold growth on them. Some of the mold was growing on the body and neck of the bottles while others had mold on or around the cork/crown. I cleaned them all off but I was wondering if there is something that I could do to prevent this from happening again? Any help would be appreciated.

    Cheers

The beads inside the unit absorb the excess moisture. Once the beads change color, it is time to recharge the unit (dry the beads).

I also have 3 of those dehumidifiers in my cellar. They work great.

I'm running a dehumidifier in the cellar that drains to a slop sink. That works well. I've also found that removing the bottles from the pack sleeves and from cardboard boxes helps the airflow around the bottle/label and cuts down on any issues.

WOW. Should I be worried about this? (Never even thought about it before stumbling on this thread!!!) I keep my beers in the basement in an old armoire. Stays about 60 degrees year round. I keep all beers in wine boxes for light reduction (even when I am opening the doors for retreival...less pretty for cellar pics, but does the job). Never seen mold (but only been doing it about 3 years). Should I expect it?!?!?

Is there any dampness around the area? If not, then you will not have mold issues.

You're in Colorado, the air is so dry you won't have to worry.
