Mold or Pellicle?

    Just checked on the sour I got going, it's smelling excellent. About 40days in so far. I'm planning to rack to secondary soon and I'm wondering if these white spots are part of the Pellicle or mold that I should try and skim? Cheers

    That does not look like any pellicle that I have seen before

    I agree, this looks nothing like a pellicle to me.

    A pellicle would cover the surface and not leave clear spots. You also generally won't see powdery-looking white clumps like you have there.

    Young pellicles often start in spots before expanding in my experience. A powdery texture is probably Brett, it will become more solid as Pedio kicks into gear. Doesn't look like anything to worry about to me, but I'd still get it out of the bucket. There is always a risk the lid won't seal completely, dooming the beer to become malt vinegar.

    Its just the wyeast3278 lambic blend.
