After reading through the comments, I had a mixture of the experiences above. (Disclosure: I have only consumed one can. I will have a second soon enough to confirm, although if there is an issue with a particular batch, that won't help.)

Here are the notes I did not like:

-Buttery malts/diacetyl. I'm not sure where this falls. Mike obviously leans toward the latter, but I have noticed the same "off" flavor in: Sip of Sunshine, Captain's Daughter, Molotov Lite, and Palate Mallet. Four different breweries at three different locations. What they all have in common is being newer DIPAs.

-Boozieness. I know this is much lower in ABV than Molotov Cocktail, but the booze is not well hidden.

-Hop Juice. I love a very hoppy brew. I do not like it when I feel like I have a mouthful of mango juice and marijuana without any malt or yeast context. (See: 1st edition Hi-Res.)

So I'll give it another go. But as for now, I just don't get what the hype is about. That buttery note is easily overcome in CD and SoS by a great overall profile. In Molotov Lite, I simply do not get that.

This post reminded me that I have 2 left from a 4 pk I purchased a few weeks back.

When I originally cracked one open I thought I might have just got a bad batch.

So I just cracked another and it is very bready and malty. I might drinking an actual molotov cocktail...

The last batch is the only one I've had and it was just alright. To be honest, it just tasted like bitter hops with very little malt to me. It tasted like a standard IPA. I've heard nothing but great things about the regular Molotov Cocktail so I was excited to try this one. I would still like to try Molotov Cocktail and do a comparison.

Actually, FWIW, SoS and Molotov Lite are both brewed @ Two Roads. However, I've never gotten any diacetyl from SoS.

I had this beer for the first time Sunday night. I have to say that the nose reeked of garlic, onions, dirty socks. One of the funkiest and dankest beers aive ever smelled. The flavor does NOT FOLLOW the nose. Slight notes of citrus and I get the greeny notes of mango.

Fun and interesting to try, but probably won't get again. Cheers BA!

I know the side of the can says "with natural favors added" . I'd like to know what these are......

I've never had the beer. It simply sounds like diacetyl and people might be overthinking this... but your question is a good one because I'm surprised by either possibility.

Hence, four different breweries at three different locations. EvilTwin and Lawson's, both at Two Roads; Palate Mallet at Back East; and Captain's Daughter at Grey Sail. I realize I may have been unclear with my distinction between a brewing company and a physical brewery.

Wow, that thread was enlightening. It let me know of a couple of BAs I should avoid in the future, because they consider their own illiteracy (more like their own laziness and inability to comprehend what they're reading, I suppose) an excuse to act like assholes. "I don't want to read what you wrote, which clearly answers my own question, so you're an ass!" :astonished:

I honestly thought this batch was better than the last. Very tropical.

Do you remember the date on the bottom on the can? judging from the comments above it sounds like there have been at least three cannings and I think I have only had the first and the second...

Two buddies each picked up a 4pk at different locations yesterday and both drain poured because of overwhelming diacetyl (buttery/butterscotch).

Maybe this partially explains my experience...

Had a guy tell me about this beer a few months back and he was using it in the same sentences as Heady. I also respected his opinion. I picked up a 4 pack recently and didn't even think it was close. Not even that good as others have mentioned above. Thought he was insane but maybe this is why

First time I tried it (at least a couple months ago) I thought it was a solid DIPA, certainly not in that class, but a solid DIPA.

    Just checked. 05/5/15.

The first batch I really enjoyed but I found this beer to be more bright and upfront in the hop department. A little more bitterness but was balanced well with a good malt backbone.

I was really excited to find these on Friday so I picked up 2 4 packs for $10 each, what could possibly go wrong since I love both orange and mango!

Unfortunately this beer suffers the same fate as Enjoy By 12/26 and War Elephant for me, GREEN ONION!!! It's ok when the beer is still cold, but unbearable as it warms. I also didn't taste any tropical notes at all and share the opinion that it has a weird well vodka kind of smell.

I believe mine had the same date, so they were canned in February using Julian
