OK, so this is probably the first beer I've really wanted to get my hands on, but I'm fairly new to trading and not sure how these things normally go, maybe you vets can kind of steer me in the right direction. It seems to be going for pretty limited stuff right now. I emailed Avery to ask them what would be going to stores and I got this reply: I'm assuming a case of 12oz bottles is 24, so that would mean another 3,000 bottles on top of what was sold at th event will be hitting CO stores. You guys think this frenzy will mellow a bit or keep snowballing?
It's hard to tell. I was at the release and after trying it in the parking lot with a group of people most of us got back in line for more. For being 17% and a dessert beer you would think it would be a sipper but I found myself trying not to drink it so fast. I'm not expecting it to sit on shelves in CO. Of course all this is my opinion and I've been known to be way off on these things.
Almost every beer mellows. especially ones with thousands of bottles being released. wait a couple weeks and throw up something decent and I would think you'll be fine.
^ I agree. I do think it will mellow and you'll be able to trade for some. There are just a lot of ISO right now.
For clarification, yes those are 24 bottles to a case. And the total number of cases is 283 but Adam Avery always takes about 25 cases for his private cellar. So the total bottle count to hit the public is right around 6000 bottles. I also agree the frenzy will mellow but it's a limited local release. Most people I've talked to are offering me shelf beers for it...or things that are widely distributed. I'm certainly biased but it's a really fantastic beer and not worth letting go for shelf beer or much higher bottle count/widely distributed beers. I have no doubt you'll find someone to trade you some. Just post up some Cascade or something like that for trade and someone will bite.
I'd bet it's fantastic, that's why I'm looking for it. I'll give it a bit, but stuff like White Chocolate, Darkness and B-bomb(shelf beer but awesome and only dist. in WA) were not garnering any bites. No Cascade beers in the East side of WA either unfortunately. Maybe after next week aome folks will be more willing to let go of some. Thanks for the advice.
Has this mellowed? I've been out of the trading game for awhile. Too many good locals and too much in my cellar to justify trading for me, but this one piqued my interest since I read the description on beer pulse months ago.
Not sure what you mean by mellowed. If yo mean has the trading value gone down then I don't think so. It didn't make if out of Colorado so the distribution was pretty small. But yo can find someone in CO who is pretty reasonable.
I think it may trade a bit easier than the pre-trades, the ratings didn't seem to fall in line with the anticipation of it's release. Don't get me wrong, it's awesome and it will still take something limited, but it may not take Chocolate Rain to get anymore.
Pretty sure the CR was on par with someone asking for 4 so it was trading $4$ as far as I remember. I trading a few and drank a few since the release and I'm not looking to get rid of any more of my stash unless a previous trader asked for some.
