I agree with @ JayORear but would add Brouwerji West to that mix of local So Cal NE styled IPA/DIPAs that you probably could get cans to take home and its minutes south of Monkish. BTW, the growler options at Monkish are often beers previously released in cans and IMHO most Monkishs' growler only IPA/DIPAs are as good if not better than the canned beers, let's be honest, the hype for the cans are for those who trade or sell for profit, more than half the lot lizards who line up for Monkish can releases never drink the beer. Monkish sell's 750 growlers which travel well, I would go that route and dont worry about hitting a can release which is usually just once a week. Enjoy your visit, make sure you get to Beachwood though, world class beers and amazing Carolina styled BBQ.

    Cheers,

Thanks @OTB and @JayORear. I figured there had to be others, and may look for some more specific suggestions from you guys (not sure what some of the abbreviations were).

I definitely have plans to get some growlers back here (whether in luggage or shipping), but had some hopes for cans that have a longer shelf life. I’ll keep monitoring this thread, and following Monkish on social media to keep track of any possible can releases.

I certainly do! I nearly PMd you last week to ask about suggestions for the area, but we weren’t sure yet if we were going to go forward with the trip. We’re now much more likely to do it. That being said, we’re doing it with the kids for spring break (Disneyland, San Diego / Legoland, etc.) so I’m still trying to figure out how to fit in my beer aspect of it! I’ll shoot you a PM for some more specific info.

Also, if I may ask here... what other breweries are worth a stop near Torrance? I'll be in LA for a conference and have free time Sunday and Monday. We will be staying in West Hollywood Sunday and near Pershing Sq in DTLA on Monday.

We should be ready to leave LAX by 2 and will start from there. We have dinner reservations in Larchmont at 5:30.

Would a loop of LAX - Monkish - Smog City - Brouwerij West - Beachwood - Larchmont be doable from 2 - 5:30? Not looking to linger at any place too long.

Any other breweries or bottle shops recommendations would be well appreciated too. Thanks in advance!

That's gonna be a not fun drive doing that loop. But hit El Segundo brewing on the way out back to LAX.

I would do the South Bay area loop on Sunday when traffic is a little bit lighter. If the weather is nice than you’ll probably see more people out and about. If you can squeeze it in I would include Phantom Carraige in the loop. They have food there as well. Pretty cool tasting room/pub. If your hurting for time I would exclude Brouwerji West. Next to Beachwood Long Beach you have Beachwood Blendery.
Do the DTLA run one Monday. If Highland Park Brewery opened earlier on Mondays I would start off their first and make your back to DTLA and park. Walk/Uber/public transportation Modern Times-Mikkeller-Mumford-LA Arts.

You might be able to do it if you allocate 15 minutes each to the Torrance breweries and 30 min each to Brouwerij West and Beachwood, but traffic conditions are unpredictable so you may end up having to skip something. You should just do two breweries and have a relaxed time at both.

Smog City, about a 1/4 block from Monkish, probably still has Infinite Wishes, a very good ba stout, in stock.

I know this is an old argument now but... what is this comment based on? if you were to poll breweries who have expanded do you think they would all say it wasn't worth the risk or reward? I don't think so
