Monkish Brewing (December 2016)

I'm in LA today visiting family and was planning to Uber down to Torrance for Smog City/Monkish...if there is a can release today, how much of a shitshow will it be to just sit and drink beer for a few hours? I wouldn't mind cans if it works out, but standing in line for a couple hours in the rain is not on my agenda.

 

Maybe the first 1-2 hours after open will be pretty crazy in the taproom since a lot of people will often go straight from getting cans to get pours or growler fills. It will thin out later, especially after cans sell out. They work through the lines pretty quick but I've definitely bailed without getting pours after getting cans because the line was out the door for the taproom.

Also, a lot of people have Friday off so people might be inclined to hang around longer.

 

If they release cans today they will post it at 2pm on their site. At 1:59 pm there will be 50 people in line and at 3pm there will be between 250-300 people in line. It takes two hours usually to run through allotments. The tap room is slammed on can release days and with this cold rainy weather I imagine it to be even worse. So my advise unless you want to stand in lines for cans is to avoid Monkish from 2pm - 5 -5:30 ish. I am planning on heading over for holiday growler fills today but if they drop cans I will wait until tomorrow.

Just kidding. I don't think Monkish is spending an iota of time concocting nefarious schemes to upset beer nerds and local brewers, but I do enjoy reading the crazy conspiracy theories here.

Starting to wonder if they'll just announce a last minute Saturday release like they did with Diverted...

Won't matter how last minute it's announced, if no release today then I'd expect a crowd early tomorrow anticipating a release then an EAAARLLLYY Saturday line forming if tomorrow doesn't happen with a safe assumption that Henry would never release on 12/25.

Then again, what the hell do I know......

 

I would assume they wouldn't release on 12/25 since they are closed that day.
