In nonIPA news, the new brett saison is delicious. Really wish they would make more of them

Now thats a throwback! I think I still have an unopened B1 Matrimonium lying around somewhere if we're talking about old school Monkish

As usual I am taking one for the team with yesterday's release of Liquid Flows DDH 100% Nelson DIPA.

As always I let this sit for 15-20 minutes before I popped the top. First impressions straight out of the gate are.....wow, and this is less than 48 hours young. The nose is spot on, perhaps a little tight right now due to it's youth but it's all in there, I can only imagine the aromatics as this knits together with some can age. Favor wise this just assault's your taste buds, I LOVE young hoppy AF Monkish beers for this reason and this just kills it. For all you " it's still to green " don't approach this beer for a while for obvious reasons. All the typical magnificent Nelson traits are on full display with Liquid Flows, from massive tropical's to that dank earthy forrest floor notes I get with super high quality Nelson hops. It's a baby that is kicking and screaming and a hell of a lot of fun to taste at this young age, I'd say to everyone that bought this yesterday to pop the top for a baseline taste and then let them sit as long as you wish. This is the super model getting ready for the runway before she puts on her last round of make-up and wardrobe. This is going to become mind bending delicious over the course of the next 2-4 weeks. So Broadcasting Live is probably my favorite Monkish beer Henry has ever brewed for many reasons, move over BL, your bigger sibling just arrived.

    Cheers,

Sad I missed DDH Nelson DIPA. :slight_frown: Was pretty sick, so I couldn't even hop out of bed.

So this dropped today. One of my favorite Monkish beers now DDH AND with this incredible Nelson crop. Straight out of the gate deeelish but hoppy AF. This was released alongside Spock It which I passed on because I've has it so many times. This was released at 1pm on a Friday, two classic Monkish beers, it's 4:30 and there is still over a 100 allotments left, a year and a half ago there would have been 200+ in line and sold out in an hour or two max. You guys care to discuss what you thinks happening with the latest string of releases? This was not a big release by any stretch 150 cases of Life and 64 cases of Spock. Are we starting to see the bubble beginning to stretch ? I mean they'll sell out but it's not the same FOMO mentality as before.....thank God IMHO.

UPDATE: This tastes very thin, I mean unlike Monkish thin, almost watery. I have spoken and texted with a few other Monkish reg's who are saying the same thing. This is not the first time I've noticed a big variation lately on some recipes I'm very familiar with. Something isn't quite right and I dont know whats causing this. Lets see what time does for this. Anyone care to discuss what they think ?

    Cheers,

I was able to pick up both earlier today and cracked a Spock it first. Never had it out of the can and it tasted like a single version of GRFC with nothing out of the ordinary - I dug it a lot.

Just cracked a Life is Foggier and while the flavor/aroma feels more intense than the last batch of Life is Foggy, I can see what you are saying about feeling a little thin.

I am not knowledgeable enough to know why or have legit thoughts on why the above might be, but I can see where you are coming from, if that makes sense - lol. maybe the bigger tank(s) are being used for the smaller batches and some adjustments still need to get dialed in? idk, lol. all I know is that it isn't so much a negative until it continues to be a recurring thing and/or makes its way into the doubles. (again, noob talking here lol).

    Cheers!

Good insight, you are right with the aromatics and flavor with LIF, the DDH does that and it succeeded in that sense. The body is what concerns me, it's unlike any Monkish hoppy beer I've had and I've had all of them, this also isn't the 1st time this has happened recently. I'm hoping it's just a system issue that need's dialing in, some recent releases have been very unbalanced and muddled as well which could be caused my a number of issues. Knowing Henry if he hasn't heard of any issues he most likely will soon and he'll due his due diligence to get these beers back to where they need to be.

They're still selling out eventually. 18 went by pretty quickly. I had the day off from work today and got one of each- Spock and Foggier. No line whatsoever. I do see them going down to maybe can releases once a week in the near future tho.

Why would they go to once a week? They have added production, they still sellout in hours, so demand still seems to be there. Most breweries would love to sell out in hours. This stuff still has not lasted overnight so I don’t see how they could lower production.

Yeah, until they stop selling out same day, I don't see them ramping down production. I mean, they sold 360 cases of Liquid Flows in about 3 hours last week with only a 1-day notice. That's pretty remarkable for any brewery.

Yes, they bought expensive equipment in order to not use it. They don't need money.

Definitely agree with OTB; the body on Foggier is very thin and lacking a lot of flavor. Hopefully Spock It has a better feel.

I personally love the increase in production for a lot of us who can't get to the brewery during the afternoon on a work day. My concern is the transition of recipes to larger volume's. Just cracked another can of Life Is Foggier and dayum it just isn't right, I mean its a good beer but Monkish doesn't make " just good " beers.

    Cheers,

I mean its good just not monkish good if ya know what I mean. Mouthfeel was lacking but it did have good flavor and smell. I didnt think the last batch of life is foggy was up to par either.
