All I know is section 20 of the The Reinheitsgebot clearly state there being regulations against making beer look like baby diarrhea.

I'm curious if this explains the amounts of strollers at Monkish on the daily.

I'm not sure what you mean. Hazebros are annoying, but so far I haven't seen any advocating for getting rid of West Coast IPAs

In addition to the two variables Shysty mentioned above, the addition of flaked wheat/oats as well as flour to the mash both contribute to the final appearance (haziness) of the beer. It's a common misconception that crystal clear beer is the result of filtration alone.

Style guidelines are an attempt to identify a range of features by which a beer can be judged, but they can't be accepted as dogma. While there's a certain appeal to producing great beer within established guidelines, being restricted to the confines of a box is also limiting the potential for creativity. Our favorite contemporary styles were developed by brewers willing to break tradition so we should all be thankful for that.

One final point is the subjective or seemingly arbitrary nature of what constitutes good appearance in beer. For instance, the haze of a hefeweizen is perfectly acceptable while it's considered a sign of poor craftsmanship in IPA by style guideline standards. I never had problems with the haze of OG Alpine Nelson and thought it was the best beer in the category for so long.

Thanks for the info, learn something new every day.

I find this interesting - even if not "invented/created" for specifically for the purpose, the style may have emerged over time because people were essentially over-hopping and sending pale ales to India prior to the IPA term being coined.

...which is why I said "to some extent". Not saying they have advocated eradicating beers but some of their comments make me think they wouldn't care if the west coast IPA was eradicated.

Was just suggesting that people who will refuse to drink a west coast because it isn't hazy are also a curious breed.

The addition of flour seems to be frowned upon by a few of the brewers I've talked to.

I don't think brewers are restricted creatively at all... they just might not win an award for what they are doing.

The link someone posted earlier about this was a great read.

If someone can flip a beer for 10x plus the original cost of the beer then it will become very popular among a certain subset of people

Anyone know if bottles of Vicissitude are still available? Thinking of cutting out of work early to pick a few up.

There were plenty left at 8pm last night. I would also check the tap list before heading over. It shows whether there are bottles to-go.

Could be mistaken, but I don't think they post a phone number on their site... probably for good reason.

They are pretty good about updating their site before open. I'd check there... and then if bottles are still available per the site, take the risk and head over.

Wouldn't head down there now for bottles unless you want the can release that's just been announced.
