I'm old school. I believe in being a responsible parent & alcoholic(social). So I would never bring my kids to a brewery just to sit and drink beer. A restaurant/brewpub would be okay. I think I can be a social drunk and watch my kids eat. But that's me. As I brought it up before in last months Beachwood thread I noticed a No Kids allowed inside sign at the HB location. But there was kids inside every time I've been there. Only the one time I saw kids a bit out of control. But last time I noticed the new HB location is a brewery only. Right? So the ABC law says no kids allowed? But there is a food truck outside.

So? It is not something I would elect to do as a parent, but I am not going to pass judgment on someone who decided to take his kid to a line on a Tuesday night (when he probably isn't going to start a hike anyways).

If the threshold for "bad parent" is taking the kid to wait in a line that is ultimately for the parents' benefit, then basically every parent on the planet is a bad parent based on that definition.

Guess I shouldn't take my kid to the mall either since there are brawls and violence there too. Or sporting events. Or just walking down the street.

...maybe because I am not trying to convince you of anything? I don't care if you like/dislike kids in the taproom/line. That is your prerogative.

I just don't happen to agree with labeling someone a bad parent just because they brought their kid to wait in line to get cans for an hour. Or to a sporting event. Or to the mall... just because there *might* be violence and pot smoke.

I don't like kids in the taproom but I am also not going on the internet trying to shame them as bad parents.

    A) It's legal.

    B) No one is forcing you to bring your kid.

    C) No one cares what you think of others who bring their kid.

    Pretty damn simple.

The legality is not in question. It's the morality.

    Irrelevent.
It's the internet. No one cares about anyone's opinion here.

BTW, you still haven't addressed the violence and public intoxication issue.

The only positive for the violence is that those parents can use their kids as a baseball bat. Us childless patrons got nothing. =(

...and I try not to impose my moral code on others...

If you define a bad parent as someone who brings your kid to a line, then rest assured you are free to make decisions that do not make you a bad parent.

No one in the Monkish lines cares about your (or my) opinion on this matter in real life either.

It sucks and I hope it stops... but I also don't think that parents who take their kids to sporting events where violence and public intoxication are regularly on display are bad parents either.

IMO, a bad parent is someone who is unable to coach their kid how to react when something bad happens instead of trying to shield the kid at all times.

Frequency of Foggy Window, particularly, also means that specific #juice is less rare so they can't upsell it for as much. No need to wait for commoner #juice that everyone can drink.

Also, I've heard about all of this "violence" and I've been to every weekday release since they got their canning line and I have yet to see even 1 altercation. No question the weekday releases have significantly cut down the line shares too.

Not saying there has never been an altercation or that all line shares have stopped, but personally I think the claims of violence and public intoxication at the weekday releases are being wildly over-stated.

I deal with a drunk asshat at EVERY sporting event I go to, half of the times there is an altercation (verbal or physical) between drunk asshats or cavemen fans... and I see kids running around all of this. But they are good, involved parents... amirite?

Hahaha... taking a kid to a rival team's home game when your team isn't the away team is most certainly bad parenting.

Of course, if they wanted to teach their kids how to be a loser they could just take them to a Padres game.

If bringing your kid to a Monkish line to wait for an hour is the worst thing you've done as a parent, then you deserve an award.

ftfy, hehehehe. But yes, it has been an incredibly long time since there was some post-season play. I believe about a decade.

One day they will win a World Series...maybe...hopefully in my lifetime. Just hoping they don't want to try and break the Cubs' streak.

Back to the video of them opening the garage doors. I was in line (nowhere near the front), and dude handing out wristbands (I forget his name), was saying that everyday, like 10 people will be hanging outside the brewery in the afternoon. If there's no Twitter/Instagram post about a can release by 2:30pm, they leave.
I was baffled by this...it doesn't make sense. I assume if you have that kind of time, you probably don't have a job, so WTF are you doing buying beer at $5 a can?

Why do I care what they spend their money on? Cause these are the same type of people that would take out interest only mortgages, and fuck up the economy.

The only reasons I'm able to make these releases is because they switched them to weekdays, I work 5 miles away, and the money I spend on these cans doesn't keep me from paying my mortgage and feeding my kids. Kids that I would never ever take to stand in line for a can release, by the way. I see people with strollers and shit, and I can't believe you value beer that much. Shit, I don't even take my kids to pickup bottles from the Bruery.

To you people saying its equivalent to taking a kid to a sporting event, that's absurd. Baseball or other sporting events don't revolve around drinking. People, for the most part, know to behave a certain way when kids are there. At a bar/brewery, you're not expected to monitor your behavior because kids are around, nor should you. Thats why I like places like Rock n Brews, they got a whole play area for kids, so people know "Hey bro, watch what you say over there, just tell us about that hooker you banged when you get back from the bathroom."

Again, I'm just another dummy on the internet, but you seriously gotta think about what control you have or don't have when it comes to can releases and such. Having your kid stand out there for a couple hours in the cold should make you reflect on your life decisions.

Sadly these are most likely the lovely individuals who buy the cans to resell online at a profit. Buy them for $5 a can and sell them $20+ a can. I'm sure after their time and packaging costs they make about minimum wage but get to keep a can or two for themselves.
