What do the profiteers and re-sellers have to do with children being present? Not sure how someone's post-purchase choice of what do with their beer impacts the health and safety of the child (...unless they decided to force-feed the beer to someone's kid...).

How real are the public drunkenness concerns since the move to midweek releases that are entirely due to the line and have nothing to do with the taproom? I can't say that I've seen anyone so faded that they were a danger to themselves or others.

Also, I disagree entirely with the notion that simply having your toddler present is or should be considered reckless endangerment.

Take a look at the football fight I posted above - the kid in the middle of the fracas was legitimately in harms way. Is that reckless endangerment?

Nope. Different licensing for cannabis establishments than for a brewery.

Not all too different from bars vs breweries - under 21s are not allowed in bars but they are in breweries because they are different licenses.

I think taking kids to a sporting event is different though. it's something you're doing together, that the kid can enjoy too. in the off chance that there's a fight near you, that's a bummer, but that could happen anywhere in the world. dragging your kid along to stand in a parking lot so you can get beer does not compare, in my opinion. it's not good parent bad parent. it's just that - in some people's minds - some activities seem better than others for kids.

you don't make a very convincing argument, but you are consistent and passionate about it, I will give you that. you should write a parenting book. it will be in reaction to the current helicopter parent culture. call it something like, "Meh, It Doesn't Make Much Difference Either Way". the whole book will be about how learning and physical activity are actually kind of bullshit. have a chapter about leaving your kids in the car with the window cracked while you go to a strip club

I miss the good ol' days of this thread when it was for complaining about lines out the door for growler fills.

I am not suggesting bringing your kid to a Monkish line is as enlightening or endearing as taking him to a football game, so I agree that they are very different in that respect.

I just don't think that difference is enough to excuse the violence and public drunkenness that is regularly on display at sporting events while condemning the parents at Monkish events for exposing their kids to (allegedly) the same type of behavior.

Personally, I have yet to witness any behavior at Monkish that comes even remotely close to the behavior I have witnessed at almost every sporting event I have gone to.

That is kind of my point about the Monkish lines. Americans are violent and there is violence pretty much everywhere - music shows, sporting events, movies theaters, the mall... and apparently even beer lines.

The answer isn't to stop taking your kid to these places because the potential for violence, it is to help coach the kids on how to respond in those situations.

I don't think anyone is suggesting that it is beneficial for the kid to wait in a beer line... we're just suggesting its not as bad for them as some people are making it seem.

I mean, reckless endagerment? For real?

Not trying to convince you to change your mind or win the discussion. Just don't share the same opinion and I like to have conversations that challenge people's preconceived notions and assumptions.

Haha... sounds like a good book, but its not really what I said at all.

I never said that waiting in the line at Monkish was more beneficial than exercise or any other activity. Never said physical activity was bullshit either.

Just because a dad is in line with their kid at Monkish at 4pm doesn't mean the guy didn't take his kids on a 5-mile hike that morning in PV where they got to explore tide pools. Not everyone works a M-F, 9-5.

Isn't this hyperbole, so there is less competition at said releases?

I sort of regret complaining now because, at this point, the argument is just going in circles.

Maybe, just maybe, we should all round up some neighborhood kids to take to the next coconut rum barrel adjunct release. We won't feel left out, and these kids can experience a glimpse of hazebros culture too.

FWIW, the only Monkish can I ever tried tasted like peach-Os

I don't have the patience or desire to multi-quote you, but you are putting words into my mouth every step of the way.

in any case, I never said it was reckless child endangerment. also, I wasn't the one who made the argument that waiting in line at Monkish is bad because of violence or public drunkenness (that was someone else). I don't even go to sporting events so I'm not defending that either. I just think bringing your kid to wait in line in a parking lot for hours for beer is fucking lame. and no, not because I don't want kids there. parents can do whatever they want. and obviously the ones dragging toddlers there don't care. to me it is ******ed though.

everyone is entitled to their hobbies, and parenting style. maybe some parents enjoy taking their kids with them to the dump to look at garbage. I'm sure you could come up with an essay-length argument about how that's good too. or not bad

maybe I'm wrong and these kids will end up looking back at these formative years in the Monkish parking lot as some of their fondest memories
