NorCaler here. I'll be in LA area in a few weeks.

The first and only time I visited Monkish, they had a canned release. It was a Tuesday. (Spock It, if you must know.)

Are their canned releases typically on specific days, like Tues/Sat? Or is it entirely random?

Baw-hahahahaha. Now they have to figure out how to manage the traffic on the 110 in potentially getting to Monkish for a 2pm release tomorrow and up to HPB for the 4pm hazy beer release.

I am betting on it being Saturday. Smog city has 2 new releases. I feel like they messed with HPB last time, now its time to mess with their neighbor.

It's great that they're self-aware of how people react to their releases.

I just hope they take a cue from Bottle Logic and other breweries' tactic of doing online can releases to help curb this kind of BS. At this point there really isn't any reason why they shouldn't.

I dunno, the quickness that BL's can sold out, I can see that as a pretty instant sell out

Unfortunately, I don't think they intend to change their releases any time soon. At the last one, Eric hinted they might start announcing cans at 4PM during Summer to avoid people waiting in the heat -- why they don't just go one step further and avoid lines altogether, I'm not sure.

I've long thought they could announce at 4pm and still sell out the same evening. Having said that, it might requires them to keep the can station staffed for longer which has its own costs, etc.

Is that really even possible? I mean, as long as Monkish are announcing that they will/will not be having a can release during the week, not sure changing release time stops people from taking a risk and lining up early like they did today.

I stopped in about 4:30 today to grab a couple growlers of No Comment. It was blissfully quiet. Had a interesting chat with Eric, he said that they are starting to see the impact with their haze traffic as a result of the saturation of NE styled beers being made locally. I have noticed that when yields are in the 140-160 case level the beers are lasting a bit longer, unfortunately for guys like me it's still not late enough though.

I agree with FF on the release times, as long as the lot lizards know that there will eventually be a can release whether at 2pm, 4pm or hell, 3am, they will all continue to loiter hours earlier than the actual release time.

    Cheers,

I'm guessing mom will do the vanpool that day so the little ones can pound their hazy roadie soadies

Why doesn't Monkish just release the cans right at 4PM when they open? Or even not even make an instagram post and just start selling them randomly. Wouldn't that destroy all of the haze laborers plans?
