Monkish Brewing (November 2016)

Mofos are lining up for glass now? Insanity.

 

I thought people were joking about the line for the glass. That's what the world has come to?

 

What's the glass look like? What'd I miss?1

I was on my way home from out of town last night, stopped by about 7:30. About 8 people in line, got three growler fills, jocking joints x 2 & 1 x little arms. It took them about 20 minutes to fill my growlers... I had a pour of Haazee Guiz, it was excellent. I saw a glass with Monkish on one side and a boom box on the other side, they had some other glasses for sale, not interested, I was there for the beer.

 

Nah. Home. I might drive there today when they open. Maybe I need to leave now? Or just go to BWHB instead.

 

Anyway let's talk about the limited edition Hop Baller glass. It looked defective when I picked mine up (very cloudy and bubbles in glass) but they told me this is a new style of glass blowing that originated on the East Coast... very cool!

I don't think the design on it is made out real gold (as the lines would indicate), but I didn't get a great look; it came off in the washing machine after my first use.

As far as tasting (I'm comparing to my normal Teku)... immediately I was overwhelmed by the tropical notes. Dare I say the mouthfeel was somewhat thicker too? Very impressive. I could only eat a few bites of the glass before my parents yelled at me and insisted I stop. Will get more in depth later.

Overall 9/10 glass (sorry don't give 10s). I hope more breweries out here start making this so called 'hop baller' glass.

 

Now back to the beer. I hung on to a growler of 2-1 & Lewis for this long holiday weekend. I think Monkish is in its sweet spot 2-3 weeks out. This is just insane, drinking really well right now.

I popped open a growler of 2-1 on Thanksgiving. Flavor was good but carbonation was negatively affected by keeping it that long. Was your carb ok? What style of growler did you use?

 

Carb was on point. I used a twist on cap growler, a taped over Alpine growler to be exact. The tape and cold fridge temp probably helped too.

Anybody tried Jocking Joints or Little Arms?

 

That is a lot of growlers.

 

So, if they are filling growlers with the same beer, how are they alienating their customers exactly?

Seems to me they are catering to the trade-frenzy while still giving access to us locals by doing that.

 

The taproom where you order is pretty small... doesn't take much to get a line out the door. Also, avoid weekends.

 

Jocking Joints was nice and mellow, almost session-y. Really enjoyed my growlers on Thanksgiving.

 

Little arms was great.

 

Sunday late afternoon/early evening was awesome when I was there two weekends ago. Really chill and not a lot of people.

 

Yah, Sunday evenings are pretty chill.
