From my point of view in line, there was hardly any discretion from those drinking so it seemed like they were cool with the drinking in public. I probably pointed that out at least three times to people in line with me because I was pretty shocked they didn't say anything about it going on in their lot.

Jesus, what selfish trash. Maybe numbered wristbands next time?

One of the employees came by to those participating in the bottle share at the front of the line and told them to throw away empty bottles and keep it on the DL. I believe they also were specifically told to not open anything from Monkish. Other than that, they didn't seem to make a big deal about it which sucks because it gives the craft beer scene a bad image. As others have pointed out, drinking a bunch of barrel aged stouts and double IPA's at 8 in the morning while waiting in line for a brewery to open is a little much..
Yeah, I was hoping they were going to go by the series of numbers on each wristband but they didn't. Numbered tickets could solve line cutting and maybe small X's drawn on hands would prevent people from getting more than they should.

To be fair, I don't think it's considered their lot. They share it with all the other businesses in that complex. I bet if the cops did show up that the people drinking would be in trouble and not the brewery. Just because Monkish doesn't openly or constantly say something or police/patrol the line doesn't mean they're cool with it. Something tells me they will address this in the near future.

People always want more than their share to post their "haul" on IG.

Never been to one of the can releases and was on the fence about the next one but reading about all the stupid shit that goes on makes it easy not to go.

Nope they'd be on the hook. That lot is shared among tenants, so if the activities being done on the lot are due to the tenants it'd be their responsibility.

Another reason to just put an end to all of it and BPT it.

small x's on hands would not stop anything. I was up at SARA for the West Ashley b10 release and saw people go wash the x off of their hands and get back in line.

Gripes that exist because people lack sense and respect and bring those qualities (or lack thereof) to lines.

They have a sign at the roll up door that says no drinking beyond this point. How is it their responsibility that some beer nerds are out drinking by the street or away from plain sight? Where is that line drawn?

This would slow down the line considerably. I honestly don't think this is the biggest issue regarding these releases right now.

Seriously who cares if people are drinking in line. Morning beers are the best, do you guys even like beer?

As long as they aren't leaving a mess behind let em drink

    Disclaimer: i wasn't there

I really wish they'd just release cans when they're ready without announcing on social media. If folks are concerned about space constraints, I'd imagine Monkish has the appropriate storage capabilities to accommodate the beer for a few days. They'll sell out so it's not like they'd be stuck with hundreds of cases of beer for weeks.

Apparently many people in this thread care.

They don't though... The pallets of cans take up like half of the table areas by the roll up door...

They don't have the appropriate cellar space in their floor plan?

if they share responsibility for an area, it is their responsibility to patrol it. Obviously once you leave the lot and are on the public street, they can't enforce it. So there, that's where the line is drawn. Similar to how a homeowners association works. It's the responsibility of everyone that shares that "public" space. The actions of those you bring into the house that break the law on those grounds are your responsibility.

    It's pretty cut and dry.

didn't they take off your wrist band once you got beer? how did someone get back in line and get more beer at the beginning of the line?

Only a certain percentage of the original line got wristbands; the rest of the line didn't but still were able to get some cans. Probably just went back in line and blended in with those who didn't get any wristbands in the first place.
