Somehow got lucky & managed to snag one just now, still saying unavailable as opposed to sold out.

Hahahaha, totally thought the sale was tomorrow. So #nope. Going to try and beg a buddy on the pre-pre list to crack one open with me.

I actually usually wait at least a week for any IPA they make. More if double. A bit more if triple.

Snagged two bottles of the release. I was thinking it was 1pp as well.

I don't find a lot of opportunities to get down to Monkish for cans and I'm not into trading IP or otherwise so I don't have a ton of experience with monkish but I can say their beer Potholes started getting maltier to me about a week ago so that puts that one particular beer at about 1.5 months for me.

I had a "Biggie, Biggie, Biggie" hidden away, drank it after three months and it tasted great. I believe it is generally agreed upon and true that the first couple days Monkish IPA's have a hop bite. After that, they seem to soften up and taste better. Regardless, they are great no matter how long after they have been produced assuming proper storage conditions. I would focus more on cold storage than age.

For me, depending if its a DH or DHH beer, they really hit their stride week one through six. Day one is usually still a bit astringent, again depending on the hop scheduling but still fun. A week later they have melded together, then develop complexity for 5-6 weeks before they slowly begin to fade. There is no questioning that these beers do get better as they get some time on them as compared to the days when you ran home after getting fresh bottles of Nelson and "tried" to drink them as fresh as possible.

    Cheers,

I just had a babbleship last week and it was still amazing. I have one more but got loads of the cans to get through. I've never let a Monkish beer sit for more then 5 weeks but I am hearing they hold up well for up to 3 months. If this helps, I just finished my last Cellarmaker/Monkish collab beer that was 6 weeks old and it actually tasted better then all the cans I had when it was fresher.

I had a three month old can of JFK to LAX IIIPA way back when. Thought around the 2 month mark was when it was solid, some malt and sweetness is there at three months, but still definitely drinkable.

While we're on the subject of old Monkish beers. I finally cracked open my growler of Sentence Begins Indented that I've kept in my fridge since Memorial Day weekend. Was still juicy but pretty malty. My friend and I still enjoyed it a lot.

Not sure if aging growlers is recommended vs their cans. Glad to hear it was still enjoyable, as they are some costly growler fills.

Hehe. I had zero intentions of aging it. Was actually waiting for my friend to come over and share it with me and ended up forgetting I had it in the fridge. Fast forward to 4.5 months later.

If only there was a way to know instantly whether you could procure said beer or not. Hopefully breweries figure it out one day. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I never HAVE nor EVER will stop by after work for any monkish can release unless there's no line, there's online can sales where I pick up n leave or there's a beer that doesn't use galaxy as it's primary hop in just about every fucking ipa they make.
