I think the hate is less about their usage of Galaxy and more about the fact that almost all their NE IPAs are exactly the same.

Not sure why it took people so long to figure that out.

No,I have to disagree with you. There has been a lot of discussion here regarding Galaxy in everything Monkish does, hence my post pointing out a non Galaxy hopped beer. The general observation regarding many of these NE styled IPA/DIPAs is there is a distinct " sameness " and to that I agree. They are complaining about the same thing at Trillium, Tree House etc. Thats just the nature of the beast, ironically its not the hops at all that give them that similarity as it is the yeasts they are all using. I drink a fair amount of Henry's beers, and while it has that tell tale NE DNA or similarity to say they are exactly the same beers is a bit of a stretch, as I have posted before if you don't like the style don't drink it, but I believe there is probably more to the story than meets the eye for some of these posts besides the beer itself.

    Cheers,

It took me 5-6 months after the OG Collab with OH. Haven't had a drip of monks ipa's since Oct.

David whats wrong with you man ! Completely get it though, you can't drink this style or any style without mixing it up, like you, I still love a great OG west coast IPA/DIPA that you can see through ! But it's diversity that makes everything good. I really think its a reaction to the extremist beer group Haze-Brah-Halla that some of these posts are focused on :astonished: They can fuck up anything. And for the record I am drinking a Foggy Window but will also pop a MT for the USC game.

    Cheers,

I admit I haven't had monks ipas since Oct last year. For my palate I was getting the same flavor on most every can/growler release. It was like the same routine week to week. But that's me. Others here will a different palate that can distinguish the difference in each release. I prefer the WCIPA over the haze/NEIPA or whatever you want to call it. Maybe if Henry would brew a WCIPA? Why just brew one style? Julian was brewing WCIPA until he gave in and tried his luck with the dank hazy side. It worked. I enjoyed it. But I prefer his IPA's over the haze. Maybe if Henry would brew a true IPA? What's he afraid of? The haze is a good change. A good fresh IPA that is what I really enjoy. I've been drinking mostly hazy IPA's today. Offshoot/Browerji West/Noble and they all tasted different. We are drinking a CHop right now. So good. Not that milky mouth feel like the NEIPA or Hazy stuff. Don't get me wrong. I like the haze but when I drink the WCIPA it's so clean and fresh tasting. Not putting down monks. But it would be interesting if they brewed a true IPA. Like it was interesting for the Bruery/Offshoot to start brewing IPA's period. It's been hit and miss with them but at least their trying. Not arguing here Bud. Just my opinion.

Note right up front, this is not a slight against Monkish. This just happens to be a Monkish thread.

The reason you see certain breweries stick to the NEIPA style without venturing into other styles - WCIPA and beyond - is because the "style" allows them to hide flaws in the base beer basically by just hopping it to infinity. It happens on both coasts, sadly. Simply put, a lot of these beers aren't made by artisans. Kimmich is an artisan. JC from Trillium is. But there aren't THAT many others who operate both in that realm and beyond.

And your opinion matters, I agree wth you, as I said I love OG west coast IPAs, I won't however say one is better than the other because its so objective. Drink what you enjoy, I'm just tired of idiots jamming a style for reasons outside of the beer itself. Sadly craft beer is mimicking the political stance in our country, hate is an ugly word, I see it more frequently in threads here more than I can ever remember, hate and beer, polarizing eh ?

And many more than not are made by very talented " artisans "

I hope that enough people lose interest that Monkish will have to start shipping their cans (like Track 7 does...) so I can finally get a taste of these. :stuck_out_tongue:

For the record, I enjoy Monkish's hazys. I think they all taste the same, but also that one beer tastes pretty solid. Though I prefer buying shit from HPB, Brouwerij West, and some other CA breweries trying out cloudy beers though. They may not always hit the mark but I usually find them interesting and different from the usual, already saturated market. I'll admit I'm also a sucker for nelson hops used in anything and everything though, so I'd probably be gushing over Monkish if galaxy were replaced with nelson in all their same-tasting beers.

Maybe they just never liked IPAs until they had NEIPAs (which is true for a good number of people I know) and have no interest in brewing a style they don't like.

If that's the case, make sure you try Devil's Triangle (Mikkeller/Arts District/Alpine collab) if you haven't yet already.

General rule of thumb is can's sell out approximately 2 hours after doors open. When they brew a batch of this size 190 cases, and a two 4 pack max, the cans could last until 6:30. As of 15 minutes ago there were 265 allotments left and 60 people in line, might be worth a shot.
