I know it's last minute, but I have an extra ticket to tonights Lost Abbey dinner at Monks if anyone is interested. Shoot me a message Cheers, Eric
Last minute bump. Just a heads up that this dinner has been pretty amazing in past years. Veritas usually makes an appearance (at least the last two years I have gone)
Devotion, Cuvee de Tomme (carbed!), Carnevale, Gift of the Magi, Deliverance, and Red Poppy. In terms of the lineup, this definitely didn't measure up to previous years offerings. In all fairness, the dinner was still enjoyable.
I heard a couple people say it was perhaps overbooked (combined two dinners into one night?), the food was cold, and Tom was stretched pretty thin.
They added a second dinner (Monday night) the day after the Tuesday night dinner sold out. At some point, the kegs got delayed and were scheduled to arrive on Monday. Rather than run the risk of not having the beer in time for the dinner, they decided to consolidate both dinners into one evening. Conceivably, this could have overstressed the kitchen. However, my personal experience differed from what you may have heard. There was maybe one dish that I felt was unintentionally served on the cold side. Nothing kicked during the event, so at the very least, there was enough beer. Maybe I'm just getting soft in my old age
Fair enough, I wasn't there just speaking from what I had heard. Glad to hear it was still a good time!
After having Veritas 007, 008, Angels Share GC, Saints Devotion, Double Framboise, Amazing Grace, etc. at past Monk's LA dinners, they may have set the bar too high. My first impression of the list before I even sat down was disappointment. This is always going to be an issue with beer dinners (especially at Monks) where the lineup isn't announced ahead of time. It's a roll of the dice.
My friend and I loved the Lost Abbey dinner at Monks last night I'm looking forward to visiting the brewery next month John
Here's a picture of the menu that I took (apologies for the shitty lighting) http://www.flickr.com/photos/57579999@N05/6858356798/ My first impression was kinda 'meh' considering that the rarest beer on there was Cuvee de Tomme, which i had always hated. But, this ended up being a new batch that just came out --- and was carbed! and tasted a lot better than my past experiences. Less conflicting overbearing flavors, more tart cherry. Very enjoyable. Ended up getting another glass of it after the dinner. and that Lauren's Pride cheese? woah! I had a good time. Thanks, Eric =) Also, thank you everyone for letting me take home your leftover lamb shank bones. I know it's weird... but i'll be the one laughing with about 5 gallons of awesome lamb stock to make soup out of. cha-ching!
