My local distributor just got more Monster ale. This hasn't been brewed since 2012 and was discontinued when "Monster" the cat passed away. I didn't see anything on their site about bringing this back, I guess the wholesaler still had some? Guess I'll just go back and look at the date on the box or bottle.

Still some on the shelves in NY. Sad the cat died, but not the beer.

It ages well. (Depending on the conditions of course)

I've been able to buy both 2012 and 2011 in the last six months. I tried both and while I thought the 2012 wasn't good at all, the 2011 was fairly good.

It seems to be lingering around. I got 4 4-packs a week or two ago. Get 'em while ya can!

Pretty easy to identify what year it is, it says right on each bottle. :astonished:

I've been patiently waiting for the lone 2012 case to move to the discount beer pile at a local spot. Just can't spend 50$ on a case that others in Pennsylvania pay 38$ for.

I found the 2012 so hot, I plan to cellar my remaining two bottles for 45 years. Drink them with my grand kids.

This almost seems like a conscious decision by Brooklyn sometimes to put out previous vintages of their higher abv beers, just like every winter, right before the new batches of Black Choco Stout come out, there's always a healthy amount of the previous years version out a few weeks before it. Could care less about Monster being discontinued though, was never a big fan of that beer... Too boozy and syrupy sweet. But I'll snatch up last years BCS all day... I've never had much patience for cellaring, so basically they're doing all the work for me.

there's a shop in Boston (downtown - state st) that has '02's and '03 on the shelf. I've never made the gamble to buy/try but was curious how they have been stored. This is a shop with a underground wine cellar .... I'm imagine these were stored down there?

Enjoyed a 2010 this evening, first time I really enjoyed Monster, as all previous attempts were too young (1-2 years) and too hot/fusel. It's too bad this is not brewed anymore since I finally found the sweet spot with this rather affordable barleywine.

Saw 2012 for 7.99 at a drugstore and I snatched it up immediately and was very excited.

It's one of the few American brewed English barleywines that was actually English. I was sad to see it go but I still find it once in a while and aging doesn't hurt it so as long as people dismiss it, I'll always have some.
